José Aldo da Silva Oliveira Júnior, also known as José Aldo, is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist who currently competes in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He previously competed as a featherweight and was the fourth and final WEC featherweight champion. Aldo became the inaugural UFC Featherweight Champion after the UFC and WEC merged.
Aldo is widely considered one of the best mixed martial artists of all time, as well as one of the finest featherweights ever. After losing his first MMA bout in November 2005, Aldo went on a winning run for more than a decade and won 18 consecutive fights until losing to Conor McGregor at UFC 194 on December 12, 2015. He announced his retirement from the sport in 2022 but returned to the octagon in 2024. As of May 8, 2025, he is the No. 11 ranked bantamweight fighter in the UFC men's bantamweight rankings.
Jose Aldo's Face Scar
Beyond Jose Aldo's octagon accomplishments, much attention has been paid to how his childhood transformed him into the athlete he is today. Fans have constantly wondered what was behind the huge scar on his left cheek. According to Aldo, it stemmed from an incident involving his elder sister, Josilene, who picked up his crib and flung it at her younger sister, Rosilene. As a result, Aldo, then a one-year-old, fell face-first into a blazing BBQ. He has had the scar ever since.
