Chris Godwin: A Brief Biography
Rod Christopher Godwin Jr. plays in the National Football League (NFL) for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' team. He plays as a wide receiver. Born on February 27, 1996, he played college football at Penn State. Godwin was selected in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers in the third round, being the 84th overall pick.
During his high school tenure, Godwin was named Delaware Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior, was selected to play in the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game, named All-state as a sophomore, junior and senior. He was also a four time All-conference wide receiver and kick returner. He also earned a spot in the Academic All-State and was a member of the Honor Roll.
During his sophomore campaign he managed to rack up 1,101 yards and five touchdowns, and emerged as a leading wide receiver. Godwin recorded a career-high 187 yards on his final match of college. He landed nine catches and scored two touchdowns in a thrilling Rose Bowl loss to USC in that match. Godwin announced later that month that he was going to declare for the 2017 NFL Draft, and finally decided to forego his final year of eligibility at Penn State.
After he started for the Buccaneers, Godwin finished his rookie year with 34 receptions for 525 yards and one touchdown. He was able to set new career highs in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns with 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns at the end of his third season. On December 17, 2019, Godwin was selected to his first career Pro Bowl. On February 7, 2021, he won his first Super Bowl championship in a 31–9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, where he recorded two catches for nine yards. The Buccaneers placed the franchise tag of worth $15.9 million on Godwin on March 9, 2021, which he reportedly signed on March 18.
