How many picks are in the NFL Draft?
There are a total of at least 224 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Currently, the Chicago Bears hold the first pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. They own the Panthers’ pick in the draft due to a trade.
There are a total of seven rounds in the NFL draft. In every round, all the 32 teams are given one draft pick. The allotment is determined by the sanding in which the teams finish the previous NFL season. This amounts to 224 picks at minimum. Due to the trades in between teams, certain teams may end up with more picks while the other team ends up with less.
Apart from these 224 draft picks, the league also awards 32 additional picks, known as the compensatory picks. This happens when the team loses players in free agency or if the other teams hire the minority front office staff and coaches.

How Long Does Each Team Have To Pick?
Every round in the NFL draft is allotted at a particular time. The first round of the NFL draft will have the most amount of time in between picks. Teams will be on the clock for 10 minutes in Round 1.
In round 2, teams will have seven minutes to make their selection. The time limit decreases as the rounds go on. Round 3 through round 6 have five minutes to make the picks while the final round, round 7 will offer just four minutes to make the selection.
If the team fails to make the selection within the given time, the next team will get to make the selection. If that team fails to make a pick as well, the next team after them will be given the chance.
How is the draft order for the picks determined?
The NFL draft order is determined by the reverse order of the standing from the previous NFL season. The team with the worst record will pick first and the team with the best record, the Super Bowl winner, will pick last.
The same format is also followed for the teams that do qualify for the NFL playoffs. Here is a gist of the draft order

Eliminated in Divisional round | 25–28 |
Conference runners-up | 29–30 |
