Back when Washington was known as the Redskins rather than the Commanders, Griffin was drafted into the NFL. The Commanders picked him second overall in the process. Now retired, Griffin had a fantastic start to his NFL career, leading the Commanders to a playoff appearance in his very first season.

Winning the offensive rookie of the year, the Commanders were looking at a young star, ready to explode. Griffin’s success on the field mostly came because of his dynamic running ability and a really strong arm. The league considered him to be one of the most promising quarterbacks.

The only problem with his career was injuries. In a tough battle against the Seahawks in the playoffs, Griffin tore his ACL in the right knee and after that, he was never the same. Concussions, dislocated ankle, and further injuries sidelined Griffin and he could never tap into his full potential.

Despite the injuries, Griffin did have flashes of brilliance. He received Pro Bowl honors in 2012. However, his best season was in 2014 where he produced for; 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns. After the 2014 season, Griffin was often benched in favor of other quarterbacks. This was mainly because of the inconsistent play where he was great for one or two games in a row and then would have a below-average performance right after.

The other teams that acquired the services of Griffin were the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens. Both the teams made him serve as the backup quarterback before he ultimately decided to hang up his jersey in 2021.

Griffin is now working for ESPN as a college football and NFL analyst.
