The Dallas Stars originated as the Minnesota North Stars in 1967 as an NHL expansion team based in Bloomington, Minnesota. However a merger with Cleveland Barons and later a shift to Dallas led the team to be renamed as the Dallas Stars. Notably, their home arena, the American Airlines Center is located in the nearby Victory Park neighborhood of Dallas. They also share this arena with the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Throughout their history, they have had notable owners, including Robert Ridder, Walter Bush Jr., Norman Green and Tom Hicks. Keeping these ownership changes aside, the Stars were still able to clinch the 1998-99 Stanley Cup and multiple other championships in the years that followed. Moreover, notable players associated with the team include Ed Belfour, Brett Hull, Mike Modano and Joe Nieuwendyk among others.
