Curtis Lionell Blaydes was born on February 18, 1991, in Illinois, United States, and started training in wrestling when a friend introduced him to the sport. The vacation hobby soon became a career path once he realized his potential in the fight business.
'Razor' was National Junior College Athletic Association(NJCAA) heavyweight champion in 2012.
He was a security for a nightclub before signing up for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Curtis Blades fought Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 266. Blaydes out-landed Rozenstruik as he connected with 113 strikes compared to Rozenstruick, who attempted 99 strikes in the entire fight and only managed to land 46.
Blaydes capitalized on Rozenstruiks's weak ground game as he took down Jiarzinho thrice and held him in ground control for over six minutes.
