Professional wrestling career
Independent Circuit
Curtin made his pro wrestling debut in the British Independent circuit, winning several championships in promotions like International Pro Wrestling: United Kingdom (IPW: UK), One Pro Wrestling (1PW), Revolution Pro Wrestling (RPW), and XWA Wrestling. In 2012, he appeared in the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA, later Impact Wrestling) program British Boot Camp, winning the competition and being signed to a contract with the promotion.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA)
In 2012, after winning the British Boot Camp he was recruited by the promotion. And he began working there in the name of Rockstar Spud. He made his official debut in February 2013. In July he entered a tournament to determine the X Division Championship. Unfortunately, he lost his first title shot to Greg Marasciulo. Spud then made his debut in the Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) and had his first title match on the day of his debut. He successfully won the OVW Television Championship by defeating Cliff Compton. Making history by winning the title on the day of the debut. Later he had many successful title defenses before losing to Randy Royal and ending his reign in 59 days. In 2015, Spud had an opportunity to grab the X Division title after winning the Feast or Fired match. In March 2015, Spud defeated Low Ki to win the X Division Championship in a shocking fashion. In June he vacated the title to get a title shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Rockstar Spud lost the match.

Curtin left Impact in October 2017 and signed a contract with WWE that same month. He would be named as the on-screen manager of 205 live, the brand created by WWE for their cruiserweight division (205 lbs. and under). He announced a 16-man WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. In September 2018, He served for a brief time as the manager of AOP on RAW. He led the faction to win their first RAW Tag Team titles after defeating Seth Rollins on the November 5th episode of RAW.

In 2019, he was not having much on-screen time. And he was in instances shown in the 24/7 Championship segment. And becoming an eight-time 24/7 Champion. He was released from the company in April 2020 due to budget cuts. Following his release, WWE still had Curtin compete in the multi-month Interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament. After losing the finals, he was given a new WWE contract and joined the NXT brand. In 2020, he became more active as an in-ring competitor after joining NXT. Maverick and Dain participated in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The team then earned an opportunity for the NXT Tag Team Championship after defeating Breezango. They lost the match and were attacked by Imperium. In June, he was drafted to RAW as a result of the 2021 draft. On November 18, Maverick was released from his WWE contract.
