Edson Barboza Jr.'s journey in life and martial arts is nothing short of remarkable. Born prematurely in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, he faced daunting odds with a 50/50 chance of survival past infancy.
Barboza began his martial arts journey at 8 and quickly fell in love with Muay Thai. Over his professional Muay Thai career, he amassed 25-3 wins, with 22 coming via knockout. 17 of his 22 knockouts were also in the very first rounds.
Barboza took a major leap of faith when he relocated to the US in January 2009, entering professional mixed martial arts (MMA) for the first time that April. On his MMA debut against Aaron Steadman, he scored an emphatic first-round TKO victory, which signaled his promising MMA career.
Barboza's journey continued to gain momentum as he claimed the lightweight title in the Renaissance MMA promotion. In a fight against Lee King, he emerged victorious with a second-round knockout.
