Frances Tiafoe was born on January 20, 1998 in Hyattsville, Maryland, U.S. He began playing tennis when he was three against a wall, according to the ATP website. At the age of five, he trained at the Junior Tennis Champions Centre (JTCC) in College Park, Maryland, where his father served as Head of Maintenance. He was coached by Misha Kouznetsov for nine years. Later, Tiafoe started training at the USTA National Training Center in Boca Raton, Florida.
