Frank Mir: A Brief Biography
Frank Mir is one of the legendary UFC fighters. He holds a large number of records
for the UFC Heavyweight division, being the fighter to hold the most number of
fights, submissions, and victories. Overall in all divisions, he is also the tied-holder
for the 4 th most wins by UFC fighters.
Early Life and debut
Frank Mir was born in Las Vegas, where he began training and later even competed
in American Kenpo at a school which his parents owned. He began wrestling as well,
and was not too successful, losing his first nine matches in school. He quickly learnt
what he was doing wrong, and in his senior year had a record of 44-1. He was also
on the Football team and Track and Field.
He made his debut in MMA after being suggested the option by Joe Silva. He went
on to debut at HOOKnSHOOT: Showdown on the 14 th of July, in 2001, which he
won. He went on to win his second fight as well, before making debut in the UFC.
First UFC run:
In the UFC, he went on to fight from 2002 to 2004, and he quickly became a big
name, with only one loss out of 6 fights. He then took on Tim Sylvia and beat him to
become the UFC Heavyweight Champion.
Motorcycle Injury and return:
Tragedy was waiting around the corner for Frank Mir, as he was in a serious
motorcycle accident and suffered two breaks in his femur as well as several other
injuries. He took a while to return, as he came back in 2006.
From then on he lost his first fight back, but also picked up notable wins later on,
including against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, where he became the Interim UFC
Heavyweight Champion, although losing the Unification bout to Brock Lesnar.
Mir continued fight but was handed quite a few defeated over 2012, 2013, and 2014,
before finally winning two more fights in 2015.
After losing his fight against Mark Hunt in 2016, Mir left the UFC.
Bellator and Color Commentary:
Frank Mir then joined Bellator MMA, where he is yet to pick up a win. He also works
as a Colour Commentator in many events.
