Early Life and Career
Turner was born and raised in San Bernardino, California, and went to Summit High School where he couldn't participate in most sports due to frequent injuries. He found his talent in wrestling but couldn't compete due to a broken finger. Turner became interested in MMA after watching bouts on TV and started practicing the sport by running, shadowboxing, and using his family couch as a punching bag. He joined Team Adrenaline to kickstart his MMA career. Despite being arachnophobic, Turner collected tarantulas as pets to overcome his fear and had 200 of them by the time he made his UFC debut, earning him the nickname "The Tarantula." He had an amateur record of 5-2 and started his professional career in 2016, fighting primarily in California and amassing a record of 7-3 with a two-fight winning streak, including a technical knockout win against Noah Tillis at Bellator 192, before being signed by UFC.
On June 19, 2018, Turner competed against Max Mustaki at Dana White's Contender Series 12 and won in the first round by technical knockout.

Turner made his UFC debut on October 6, 2018, at UFC 229 against Vicente Luque, but lost via knockout in the first round. He won his second UFC fight against Callan Potter via knockout in the first round on February 10, 2019, at UFC 234. Turner lost his next fight against Matt Frevola by unanimous decision at UFC 236 on April 13, 2019. He won his next fight against Joshua Culibao via TKO in the second round on February 23, 2020, at UFC Fight Night 168.
Turner's scheduled fight against Thiago Moisés at UFC Fight Night 176 was canceled after Moisés tested positive for Covid-19, but he was quickly rescheduled to face Brok Weaver on September 12, 2020, at UFC Fight Night 177, which he won via rear-naked choke submission in the second round. Turner won his next two fights against Uroš Medić on September 25, 2021, at UFC 266 via rear-naked choke submission in the first round, and against Jamie Mullarkey on March 5, 2022, at UFC 272 via technical knockout in the second round.
Turner won his fight against Brad Riddell on July 2, 2022, at UFC 276 via guillotine choke submission in less than a minute, earning him a Performance of the Night award. Turner was scheduled to face Dan Hooker on March 4, 2023, at UFC 285, but Hooker withdrew due to a hand injury and was replaced by Mateusz Gamrot. However, Turner lost the bout via a split decision.
