UFC 253 Adesanya v Costa: Weigh-Ins

Early Life and Career

Jan Blachowicz got into martial arts at the age of 9 when he started training in judo.

Blachowicz started his professional MMA journey in 2007 at the age of 24. He fought Marcin Krysztofiak at FCP 3. Blachowicz lost the fight via unanimous decision but bounced back as he entered the KWS 2007 Light Heavyweight Tournament Quarterfinal. Blachowicz defeated

Sebastian Olchawa in the quarterfinals. He then defeated Pawel Gasinski in the semi-finals and Daniel Dowda in the final to win the Light Heavyweight Tournament.

He lost his next fight after the tournament win against Andre Fyeet at KSW VII via submission(kimura). But, Jan bounced back as he entered the KSW 2008 Light Heavyweight Tournament. Blachowicz won the tournament after defeating Martin Zawada in the quarterfinals, Antoni Chmielewski in the semi-finals, and Azizi Karaoglu in the final.

Blachowicz won his next 2 fights and then entered the 2009 KSW Light Heavyweight Tournament. He won the tournament after defeating Daniel Tabera via TKO(punches) in the second round.

After winning the tournament, He got a title shot at the vacant KSW Light Heavyweight Championship. against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at KSW 15. Blachowicz lost the fight due to a leg injury incurred during the second round of the fight. He then fought Toni Valtonen at KSW 16 and defeated him in the second round via rear-naked choke to get a rematch against Rameau Theirry Sokoudjou at KSW 17.

Blachowicz defeated Rameau via unanimous decision and became the new KSW Light Heavyweight Championship. Blachowicz then won his next 4-fights and joined the UFC in 2014 with a professional record of 17-3.

Jan Blachowicz made his UFC debut in 2014 against Ilir Latifi at UFC Fight Night: Nelson vs. Story. He won in the first round via TKO. Jan's career took a downturn after the fight as he went 1-4 in his next 5 fights but, he bounced back and defeated Devin Clark at UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Till. Following this, he went on a 4-fight-win streak before Thiago Santos stopped him at UFC Fight Night: Blachowicz vs. Santos.

Jan again bounced back from the loss and went on a 4-fight win streak and defeated the likes of Luke Rockhold and Corey Anderson before getting a title shot at the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against Dominick Reyes at UFC 253. Blachowicz dominated Reyes and ended the fight late in the second round via TKO(punches) to become the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

In his first title defense, Blachowicz fought the UFC Middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya. Blachowicz outclassed Adesanya and won the fight via unanimous decision. Jan then fought Glover Teixeira at UFC 267. He lost to Teixeira via second-round rear-naked-choke and lost the championship.

Jan Blachowicz fought Israel Adesanya at UFC 259. This was Blachowicz's first title defense and he easily defeated the UFC Middleweight Champion Adesanya. Jan used his weight and size advantage to outstrike Adesanya on the feet as well as dominate him on the ground to take a Unanimous Decision Victory.

Jan Blachowicz vs Glover Teixeira

Jan Blachowicz fought Glover Teixeria at UFC 267 for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Glover was able to take down Blachowicz in the first round and maintained the position for the entire first round as Blachowicz tried to but could not get Glover off him. Jan looked to bounce back in the second round but got rocked by a Teixeira right. He retaliated with some punches before Teixeira took him to the ground and gained back control. Jan was unable to stop Teixeira from putting on a rear-naked-choke and submitted to the choke to lose the fight and the championship.
