Joe Rogan Martial Arts Career
Rogan's Martial art journey began at age 13 when he started karate and became a member of his school wrestling team. At age 14, Rogan joined Taekwondo and began competing in Taekwondo tournaments. He won the Massachusetts Full Contact Taekwando Championship 4-times in a row from age 15 to 19. He also won the US Open Taekwondo Championship in the lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight divisions and got 2nd place in the National Taekwondo Championship before leaving the sport for kickboxing. Rogan amassed an amateur record of 2-1 in kickboxing before leaving the sport at age 21 due to the frequent headaches he suffered and to focus more on his comedy career.
Rogan got back into martial arts in 1994 when he started training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under Carlson Gracie and then under Jean Jaques Machado in 1997. After 15 years of training in BJJ, Rogan got a 10th Planet black belt under Eddie Bravo in 2012 and earned a Gi BJJ Blackbelt under Jean Jacques Machado.

Joe Rogan joined the UFC in 1997 as the post-fight interviewer. He stayed with the promotion till 1999 but left to focus more on comedy as it was financially better.
He rejoined the UFC in 2001 when Dana White convinced him to be the color commentator for UFC 37.5. He then worked for the UFC for over a year without receiving any money and instead got compensated by having the UFC get him to the venues and giving him and his friends free tickets.
After doing this for 15 events, Rogan started getting paid for the commentary. Rogan is still a color commentator for the UFC and earns an average of $50,000 per UFC main event.

Joe Rogan launched The Joe Rogan Experience podcast on December 24, 2009, initially on Youtube. Along with Rogan, Brian Redban co-hosted and produced the show until Jamie Veron eventually took responsibility for the production in 2012.
