Khamzat Chimaev Early Life
Khamzat Chimaev started his combat sports journey at age 5 when he started training as a wrestler. He won a bronze medal in wrestling in the junior category of the Russian National Championships before immigrating to Sweden in 2013.
In Sweden, Khamzat won the Swedish Freestyle National Championships in 2016 and 2017 in the 86kg category and 2018 in the 92kg category.
He began his MMA training in 2017 and made his amateur debut in the same year at Fight Club Rush 1 against Khaled Laallam. Chimaev won the fight in the second round via submission( D'arce Choke). Chimaev built on his debut victory momentum as he won his next 2-fights before turning professional in 2018.
Chimaev made his professional debut against Gard Olve Sagan at International Ring Fight Arena 14 and won the fight in the second round via TKO(punches) and won his next fight against Ole Magnor at Fight Club Rush 3 via first-round submission. Following this, he signed with BCF(Brave Combat Federation) in 2018.
Chimaev amassed a 4-fight win streak at BFC and got a title shot for the BCF Welterweight Championship against Jarrah Al-Sewale at Brave FC 27. However, due to COVID, the bout got canceled. After the cancellation, Chimaev decided to leave Brave CF and join the UFC in 2020.
