Nicolas Almagro: A Brief Biography
Nicolas Almagro Sánchez is a Spanish tennis player, ranked No. 12 on the ATP World Tour. Amagro started his professional career with a bang by winning the gold medal at the 2005 Mediterranean Games. In April 2006, Almagro won his maiden ATP tournament title – the Open de Tenis Comunidad Valenciana, winning 8 matches in a row including 3-set victories over former world #1\'s Juan Carlos Ferrero and Marat Safin. Almagro won his second title on 15 April 2007 by defeating Potito Starace. The following year he won another title by defeating Carlos Moyà in a roller-coaster 3-set battle and topped that off with yet another title in Acapulco.
He went through a tough period in the next 2 years, and he put an end to his 17-month title drought by defeating top seed and defending champion Robin Söderling at the 2010 Swedish Open. He then won his eighth career title against Alexandr Dolgopolov at the 2011 Brasil Open. His winning streak continued as he snatched his second consecutive title at the 2011 Copa Claro tournament in Buenos Aires.
