Nick Aldis is an English professional wrestler and on-screen authority figure currently signed to WWE where he is the General Manager of Friday Night SmackDown. His real name is Nicholas Aldis. Besides WWE, Aldis is also known for his work in TNA and NWA under the ring name Magnus Brutus.

Early Life

Nicholas Aldis was born on November 6, 1986, in Docking, Norfolk, England. Aldis was involved in sports such as swimming and tennis from a young age and made his pro wrestling debut in 2004 in the British independent circuit. Besides wrestling, he also made it to the British TV series Gladiators during his early 20s where he appeared in many episodes.

Professional Wrestling Career

Born in 1986, Aldis began his independent wrestling career in 2003, at the age of 16. He wrestled in the British independent circuit for about five years wrestling at promotions such as Dropkixx Wrestling (DKW), All-Star Wrestling, and the World Association of Wrestling.

TNA Wrestling / Impact Wrestling (2008-2015)

Nick Aldis joined the American pro wrestling promotion in 2008. Around that time TNA was at its peak and during Aldis’ run with the company, stars like AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, The Dudley Boyz, Sting, Kurt Angle, Hulk Hogan, and others had been wrestling there. He made his debut in December of that year under the ring name Brutus Magnus, continuing his role as a Gladiator.

He used the Gladiator gimmick for about a year before forming a team with fellow British wrestlers Doug Williams and Rob Terry in 2009. The three wrestlers would call themselves The British Invasion. The next two years saw Aldis moving forward with his new team while also winning the TNA World Tag Team Championship with Williams.

Following a two-year partnership, the bond between the three was quietly dropped and Aldis started teaming up with Samoa Joe. They won the 2011-12 Wild Card Tournament and in February won the TNA Tag Team Championship, and held it for over 100 days. Both the stars then joined TNA Bound for Glory Series where Joe defeated him in the Quarterfinals, sparking a feud between the two mates. This led to a match at Bound for Glory which Joe won.

The next year, he was announced as the fourth member of New Main Event Mafia alongside Kurt Angle, Sting, and Samoa Joe. As the team soon started to fall, Aldis scored a big victory over Sting launching him to the top of TNA. He then defeated former mates Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle before defeating Jeff Hardy in December 2013 to become the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion.

He also defeated Sting once again in 2014, this time ending his TNA career. Aldis lost the title to Eric Young in April 2014 and stuck around with the TNA for about a year more before calling it a day in 2015.

Ring Ka King (2012)

Ring ka King or RKK was a professional wrestling brand by TNA or Impact Wrestling which ran from December 2011 to April 2012. It was mainly targeted at the Indian audience. Many major TNA names took part in the brand including Brutus Magnus. He was also the second RKK World Heavyweight Champion after Matt Morgan. He lost the belt to title’s last champion Mahabali Veera after holding it for 33 days.

Pro Wrestling Noah and Global Force Wrestling (2012, 2015-2017)

When Brutus Magnus was friends with Samoa Joe in 2012, the two had made appearances on Pro Wrestling Noah where they also won the GHC Tag Team Championship, but lost it in the very first title defense.

After wrestling for about eight years on TNA, Aldis joined Global Force Wrestling in 2015. This team he was competing under his real name. At GFW, he defeated the likes of Tomasso Ciampa and Bobby Roode to become the first-ever GFW Global Champion.

TNA (2017)

Starting from January 2017, TNA and GFW signed a deal by which GFW talent started appearing on TNA programming. This meant that Brutus Magnus was now returning to the promotion he spent eight years with. His second stint with the company mainly revolved around wrestlers such as Matt Morgan, James Storm and Chris Adonis.

NWA (2017-2022)

In November 2017, Nick Aldis challenged for Tim Storm’s NWA World Heavyweight Championship after joining Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. While Storm retained the title, Aldis demanded a rematch. He got that and defeated Storm to become only the second British wrestler to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

Aldis began to work like a fighting champ and once defended twenty titles in the span of two months. At the monumental pay-per-view event All In, which would turn out to be the stepping stone of AEW, Aldis lost the belt to Cody Rhodes. He would regain the belt in October 2018. What fans thought to be another title reign turned out to be quite legendary instead.

Aldis eventually lost the belt but it did not come soon. It was not until 2021 that someone took the NWA Championship off Nick Aldis’ shoulders. He defeated the likes of Jake Hager, James Storm, Leland Race, Marty Scrull, Jimmy Havoc, Ricky Morton, Aron Stevens, and others. He held the title for 1043 days before losing it to Trevor Murdoch.

Aldis joined TNA for one last time after leaving NWA. His last run with TNA did not go too long and his last match came against Eric Young, the man who ended Aldis’ only TNA World Championship run. Aldis lost this match as well.

WWE (2023-Present)

Nick Aldis began working as a producer with WWE in August 2023. The October 13 episode of SmackDown was the season premiere episode where Triple H announced that Adam Pearce had been promoted as the General Manager of Monday Night RAW. To even the odds, he also announced a new GM for SmackDown, which turned out to be none other than Nick Aldis. He announced that after Cody Rhodes took Jey Uso to RAW, he had traded Kevin Owens for him and now the Prizefighter was coming to the blue brand.

Aldis and James started dating in December 2010 and had their first child on September 25, 2014, a boy they named Donovan Patrick Aldis. The two got engaged in December of that year before tying the knot on December 31, 2015.
