Noam Dar is an Israeli-Scottish professional wrestler signed to WWE under the NXT brand. Alongside WWE, Dar also works with ICW (Insane Championship Wrestling). Early Life
Noam Dar was born on the 28th of July, 1993. Born in Be'er Ya'akov, Isral, Dar moved to Scotland with his family at the age of five. He was then raised in the city of Ayr. Dar was an ardent football fan and grew up supporting the Scottish football club Rangers FC. He also had an interest in pro wrestling and made his debut on the British indies circuit as soon as he turned 15.
Professional Wrestling Career
Indies (2008-2016, 2019-2021)
Dar started his professional wrestling career at the age of 15 in the British independent circuit. He wrestled for various promotions like Scottish promotions such as British Championship Wrestling and Premiere British Wrestling. He also gained international experience wrestling in Spain for Dragon Gate's "European Invasion" and Zero1 Spain. Dar won his first championship, the PBW Tag Team Championship, with Liam Thomson in May 2011. He also participated in the 1PW World Heavyweight Championship tournament but was unsuccessful. Later, he became the final 1PW Openweight Champion. In October 2011, he won a dark match against Daniel Robert for Dragon Gate UK.
Dar continued his journey in 2012, wrestling in various promotions across Europe. He participated in several tournaments, including the prestigious wXw 16 Carat Gold, but fell short of victory. Dar challenged established stars like Eddie Edwards and Prince Devitt, showcasing his talent on bigger stages. Despite some losses, he secured notable wins over Spud and Mark Haskins. Dar found success in PBW, capturing the "King of Cruisers 2012" title. He also made his return to Dragon Gate UK, facing renowned wrestlers like Yamato and Masaaki Mochizuki. In 2013, RPW welcomed Dar back, where he defeated Mark Andrews but faced defeat against Michael Elgin and Marty Scurll. Throughout these years, Dar continued to hone his skills and gain recognition in the European wrestling scene.
Dar continued his ascent in 2013 by finally capturing the BCW Openweight Championship from Andy Wild. He held the championship for over a year before losing it to Kenny Williams in 2015. Dar had a notable three-match feud with Grado over the PWE World Heavyweight Championship between 2014 and 2015, and also scored a win over Christopher Daniels. In late 2015, Dar debuted for Global Force Wrestling (GFW), defeating Chris Ridgeway. He also won the PWE's "Elite Rumble", earning him another shot at the PWE World Heavyweight Championship. Dar was successful in dethroning Iestyn Rees for the title in July 2016.
Other Promotions - Preston City Wrestling, Progress and TNA
Dar's journey in Preston City Wrestling (PCW) started in 2011 when he participated in the tournament to crown the first PCW Heavyweight Champion. Although he didn't win, he continued his pursuit of titles and became the inaugural PCW Cruiserweight Champion in 2012. He held the title for 168 days before losing it to Dave Rayne in 2013. Dar bounced back by winning the 2013 "Road to Glory" tournament, earning him another shot at the PCW Heavyweight Championship. He wrestled champion Doug Williams to a time-limit draw and later challenged champion Lionheart but was unsuccessful. Despite not winning the top title, Dar remained a prominent figure in PCW in 2014 and 2015, wrestling established names like Paul London, Steve Corino, Chris Hero, Tommaso Ciampa, John Morrison and Rob Van Dam.
Dar's journey in Progress Wrestling began in 2012 with him competing in the tournament for the inaugural Progress Championship. Though he didn't win, he went on an impressive winning streak that lasted into 2013. He became the No. 1 contender for the title after defeating Dave Mastiff, but fell short against El Ligero. In 2014, Dar's fortunes changed. He won the first Progress World Cup tournament, representing Israel and defeating wrestlers from Jamaica, Scotland, and England. This victory earned him another shot at the Progress Championship, this time against Jimmy Havoc. The match was intense, with Dar making Havoc tap out, but the referee was knocked out and Havoc retained the title.
Speaking of Dar's TNA experience, he was a contestant in season 2 of TNA's British Boot Camp. While he advanced to the final six of the competition, Dar failed to lift the trophy. He also wrestled a few matches in TNA.
WWE (2016-Present)
Dar made his WWE debut in the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016, where he made it to the quarterfinals. He then joined the 205 Live roster and quickly established himself as a heel. In early 2017, he began an on-screen relationship with Alicia Fox, but she eventually sided with his rival, Cedric Alexander. Dar then joined The Zo Train, a faction led by Enzo Amore. In December 2017, Dar suffered a knee injury that required surgery.
Dar returned to action in June 2018 and began competing on both 205 Live and NXT UK. He had a successful run on NXT UK, winning a number of matches and even challenging for the WWE United Kingdom Championship. In March 2019, Dar turned heel and began feuding with Mark Andrews. He was sidelined with an injury in April 2019, but returned to action in June. Dar continued to compete on both 205 Live and NXT UK until the latter brand went on hiatus in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When NXT UK returned in July 2021, Dar was a part of the NXT UK Heritage Cup tournament. He lost to eventual winner, A-Kid, in the second round.
Dar started 2021 by hosting his talk show "Supernova Sessions" and forming an on-screen association with real-life friend Sha Samuels. He became the #1 contender for the NXT UK Heritage Cup in October and defeated Tyler Bate to win the championship, becoming the first champion of Israeli descent in WWE history. Dar lost the title to Mark Coffey in July 2022 but regained it from Coffey in September. Following the closure of the NXT UK brand, Dar, along with the Heritage Cup, went on hiatus from WWE. He returned to NXT in April 2023 and defeated Miles Borne in his in-ring debut. Dar retained the Heritage Cup against Dragon Lee at NXT Battleground in May with the help of his new group, The Meta-Four. He lost the title to Nathan Frazer in June due to a knee injury but won it back for a record-setting third time at NXT Heatwave in August. Dar successfully defended the title against Akira Tozawa in October and November.
