Paul Bearer: A Brief Biography
William Alvin "Bill" Moody was an American professional wrestling manager. He is best known for his work with WWE as Paul Bearer and managed The Undertaker and Kane. He is a WWE Hall of Famer.
Professional Wrestling Career
Early Years (1974-1990)
During his teenage years, Moody entered the wrestling industry as a photographer. In 1979, Moody became a full-time wrestling manager. In 1984, he began working for WCW. During his time with the promotion, he was called Percy Pringle and managed several stars, such as Rick Rude, "Stunning" Steve Austin, and Mark Calaway.
WWE/F (1990-2012)
In 1990, Moody began working for WWF, where he received a new character called Paul Bearer. In 1991, he began managing The Undertaker. The partnership went on for five years before Bearer turned on The Undertaker. In 1996, he aligned himself with Mankind and began feuding with The Undertaker. In 1997, he and The Undertaker began working together. After a few weeks, Undertaker got frustrated with Bearer and left him. In October, Kane made his debut at Bad Blood and attacked The Undertaker.
Initially, Bearer managed Kane after his debut. The feud between The Undertaker and Kane ran through 1998, and Bearer turned face after he aligned himself with The Undertaker. In 1998, Bearer and The Undertaker formed The Ministry of Darkness. After Taker got injured, Bearer and Taker took some time off. In 2000, Bearer reappeared and began managing Kane till WrestleMania 2000.
After working with TNA for a year, Moody returned to WWE. In 2004, Bearer returned at WrestleMania XX. The Dudley Boyz and Bearer began feuding in March. In the end, The Undertaker dumped Bearer into a vat of cement. After his on-screen appearance, it turned him into a WWE booker. They used Bearer in several backstage roles and made several sporadic appearances. In 2010 and 2012, they used Bearer in two feuds involving Kane. In 2014, Bearer entered the WWE Hall of Fame.
