Independent Circuit (2009-2020)

Powerhouse Hobbs trained at the All Pro Wrestling (APW) school and debuted in 2009. He wrestled for APW for 10 years, winning multiple championships including the APW Worldwide Internet Championship and APW Tag Team Championship.

He also wrestled for various independent promotions in the San Francisco Bay Area, winning titles in Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, Gold Rush Pro Wrestling, and Pro Championship Wrestling. In 2016, he had a dark match loss in his one-off match against Baron Corbin in WWE.

AEW (2020-Present)

William Hobson made his debut in July 2020 under the ring name Will Hobbs. He made his AEW debut in a 21-man Casino Battle Royale at AEW All Out. Reportedly, his performance in the match impressed the CEO and Co-Founder Tony Khan, who offered him a contract with the promotion.

Soon after his official debut, Hobbs was challenged for the FTW Championship in an unsuccessful attempt. Around the same time, his ring name was changed to Powerhouse Hobbs. Hobbs carved a path of success in AEW's 2021 season. He racked up wins in both singles and tag team matches on their secondary shows.

He even secured a victory against Brian Cage within the established Team Taz. This momentum hit a roadblock when he fell to CM Punk in a highly anticipated match. Things changed for Hobbs in 2022. He participated in a major ladder match but wasn't victorious. Though he continued to wrestle alongside Starks, their focus shifted to tag team competition.

Their attempt to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship fell short. The year concluded with a dramatic twist - Hobbs betrayed Starks, igniting a heated rivalry between the former teammates. At the AEW Grand Slam, Hobbs came up short to Stark in a Lights Out Match.

At AEW Full Gear 2022, he challenged for the AEW TNT Championship in a triple-threat match against Wardlow and Samoa Joe but failed to win the match. At Revolution 2023, he won the Face of the Revolution ladder match and became the number-one contender for Wardlow’s TNT Championship. The next night, with some external help, Hobbs managed to beat Wardlow for the title in a Falls Count Anywhere match.

He could hold the belt for only about a month before losing it back to Wardlow on the April 19 episode of Dynamite. In July, he participated in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament and met his former friend Ricky Starks in the semi-final but failed to beat him once again. In October, he joined the Don Callis Family. At Revolution 2024, Hobbs partook in the All-Star Scramble Match for a future AEW World Championship Match but the match was won by Wardlow.
