Svetlana Kuznetsova: A Brief Biography

Svetlana Aleksandrovna Kuznetsova is a Russian professional tennis player who currently ranks No. 55 in the WTA singles and No. 42 in the doubles ranking. She represents her country Russia and has appeared in various national and international tournaments. Kuznetsova has competed in four Grand Slam singles finals, winning two, and has also appeared in seven doubles finals, winning twice. As a doubles player, she has reached the finals of each grand slam at least once, winning the Australian Grand slam twice. She made her professional debut in the 2000 junior tournament. Her first professional appearence was in 2001, when she competed in Madrid Open and a year later won her first WTA title at the Nordea Nordic Light Open in Helsinki. Though Hher first Grand Slam experience was in 2002 when she participated in the Australian Open
, her first Grand Slam title came at the 2004 US Open , making her the third Russian woman to win a Grand Slam title. Her second grand slam title was at the 2009 French Open where she defeated Dinara Safina in the finals. She was also the finalist in the 2006 French Open and the 2007 US Open singles tournament. As a result of her consistently impressive performace her WTA ranking rose to a career high of number 2 and held that position for 24 whole weeks in 2007 and 2008. Kuznetsova had previously teamed up with Arantxa Sánchez Vicario to win five WTA doubles titles. Following some not so successful partnerships, she finally paired with Likhovtseva and climbed to Number 3 position in doubles in 2004. Besides earning a total of 13 WTA and 1 ITF singles titles and 15 WTA doubles titles to date, Kuznetsova has also won a staggering amount of US$16,524,126 in prize money.
