Early Life and Career

Dillashaw started his combat sports journey as a high school wrestler. During his high school wrestling, he amassed a record of 170-33 and won 2nd place at the CIF State Championships during his senior year. Dillashaw's college wrestling career would be less successful as he went 14-16 in the 2005-06 and 17-14 during his sophomore year.

He transitioned into MMA after graduating college and amassed an amateur record in 2009 before turning professional in 2010.

TJ made his professional debut at KOTC: Legacy against Czar Sklavos. Dillashaw won the fight via a unanimous decision to start a 4-fight win streak in the independent MMA circuit before joining the UFC as a participant on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Bisping vs. Team Miller.

TJ Dillashaw The Ultimate Fighter

TJ Dillashaw started his TUF 14 journey by dominating Matt Jaggers and winning the fight via TKO(retirement). Dillashaw then became a member of Team Bisping as the second Bantamweight pick.

TJ fought Roland Delorme in the quarterfinal bout and submitted him in the second round via guillotine choke. He continued his winning streak in the semifinal bout against Dustin Pague as Dillashaw outclassed Pague to earn a comfortable unanimous decision victory and a final berth. TJ fought John Dodson in the final and got handed his first loss in MMA as Dodson TKO'ed him inside 2-minutes of the fight.

TJ Dillashaw UFC

TJ Dillashaw made his UFC debut against Walel Watson at UFC on Fuel TV 1. He followed it up by winning his 3-next fights in the UFC before fighting Raphael Assunção at UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Shields. Dillashaw lost the close encounter via split decision. Despite this, Dillashaw got his first First of the Night bonus for the fight. He bounced back from the loss by defeating Mike Easton via unanimous decision.

Dillashaw was next scheduled to fight Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 173. However, Dillashaw got promoted to the main event of the UFC 173 to save the card and, he instead fought Renan Barao for the UFC Bantamweight Championship. Dillashaw cemented his superstar status in the UFC as he dominated Barao and TKO'ed him in the fifth round via head kick and punches to become the new UFC Bantamweight Champion.

Dillashaw defended his title against Joe Soto at UFC 177 and Renan Barao at UFC on Fox 16 before fighting Dominick Cruz at UFC Fight Night 81. Cruz used his advanced footwork and striking prowess to earn a split decision victory to end Dillashaw's title reign.

Dillashaw got back on the winning track by defeating Raphael Assuncao and John Linekar via unanimous decision. He then became a coach at the Ultimate Fighter 25 opposite Cody Garbrandt. The pair were scheduled to fight at UFC 213. However, the bout got rescheduled to UFC 217. Dillashaw outworked Garbrandt and TKO'ed him in the second round via unanimous decision to become the UFC Bantamweight Champion for the second time.

Dillashaw made his first title defense in a rematch bout against Cody Garbrandt at UFC 227. Just like their first fight, Dillashaw got the better of Gabrandt and knocked him out in the first round via knee and punches.

Dillashaw then went down to flyweight to fight Henry Cejudo for the UFC Flyweight Championship at UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs. Dillashaw. Cejudo dominated Dillashaw and TKO'ed him in 32 seconds. Dillashaw tested positive for erythropoietin in the pre and post-fight test resulting in a 12-month suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission. On 20-March, 2019, Dillashaw voluntarily relinquished the UFC Bantamweight Championship and, on 4-April, USADA suspended Dillashaw for 2-years retroactive to 19-January, 2019.

Dillashaw was scheduled to make his UFC return at UFC on ESPN 24. However, the fight got postponed due to Dillashaw getting a cut from a headbutt while sparring. Both the fights eventually fought at UFC on ESPN: Sandhagen vs. Dillashaw. Both fighters put on an instant barnburner classic for all the 5-rounds that ended with Dillashaw edging out a close split decision victory.

TJ Dillashaw vs Cory Sandhagen

TJ Dillashaw fought Cory Sandhagen at UFC on ESPN: Sandhagen vs. Dillashaw. Both fighters didn't waste much time as Sandhagen attempted a flying knee transitioned into a reverse triangle choke. Dillashaw powered through the choke and gained top-half before taking the fightback on the feet while still controlling Sandhagen's back. Dillashaw put Sandhagen along the fence in a Khabib-esque fashion while connecting with his knees and leg strikes before Sandhagen escaped. The competitive round went in Dillashaw's favor.

TJ was on the back foot in the second round due to the first round knee injury. Sandhagen's used his footwork to counter TJ's pressure as Sandhagen dropped Dillashaw with a big right that caused a big cut over Dillashaw's eye. The round ended with TJ gaining control over Cory's back along the fence.

Dillashaw dominated round three as he outworked Sandhagen throughout the round using his superior grappling skills and his leg kicks.

In round 4, Dillashaw focused more on the grappling while Cory outworked him in the striking department. Round 5 was a striking slugfest that saw both sides exchange boxing combos with, Dillashaw getting momentary control over Sandhagen with his takedown attempts.

TJ Dillashaw won the fight on the judges' scorecard via a split decision.
