Umar Nurmagomedov is a professional mixed martial artist from Russia who currently competes in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Early Life and Career
Umar Nurmagomedov is the brother of Usman Nurmagomedov, the current lightweight world champion of Bellator MMA.
At a very early age, Umar Nurmagomedov started training with his uncle Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov in Dagestan, Russia. He is a cousin of Former Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Umar Numagomedov became the world champion in Combat Sambo under the WCSF organization and became the World Champion in Amateur MMA when he was 19 and 20, respectively.
He made his professional fight debut at the Fight Nights Global 57 in Moscow and won the bout by submitting Rishat Kharisov (his opponent) with a guillotine choke.
Nurmagomedov, before joining the UFC, has taken part in many fighting championships ranging from GFC, PFL, Sammara MMA Federation, and Fight Nights Global.
Umar Nurmagomedov’s Career in UFC
Umar Nurmagomedov got signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2020 and was scheduled to fight for the first time against Hunter Azure at UFC 249 earlier that year.
However, he made his octagon debut only in 2021 due to the passing of his uncle, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
Nurmagomedov faced Sergey Morozov for his debut at UFC on ESPN: Chiesa vs. Magny on January 20, 2021, in Abu Dhabi, and won the fight via rear-naked choke. He also won a post-fight bonus for his efforts.
The second fight was his featherweight debut against Brian Kelleher at UFC 272 on March 5, 2022. He came out on top, submitting Kelleher in the first round.
In his last fight, Umar Nurmagomedov faced Nate Maness at UFC on ESPN: Tsarukyan vs. Gamrot on June 25, 2022. He won the fight via unanimous decision.
