Yoshihiro Takayama is a former MMA fighter and professional wrestler who made his name in Pride fighting in some of the most hard-hitting fights of all time.
At Pride 21, he fought Don Frye, a fight which is considered to be a classic by everyone who saw it. The two men squared up to each other and then proceeded to rain blows on their opponent. The blows were hard hitting and both men gave as good as they got.
While Takayama lost the fight, this is considered to be one of the most famous fights of all time.
In his professional wrestling career he performed for the Union of Wrestling Forces International, All Japan Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Noah and the independent scene.
His career came to a sudden and tragic end in 2017. When he was attempting a Sunset Flip Powerbomb, Yoshihiro Takayama landed on his own head instead, and the match came to an end immediately. He was taken to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a "cervical spinal cord injury due to degenerative cervical spondylosis".
He remained bedridden, while the public was not aware of the injury severity. It was then revealed that he was paralysed from the neck down and while he could breathe on his own, he was not expected to recover.
