The Chicago White Sox are one of the most popular teams in Major League Baseball (MLB). This team is part of the American League and competes in the Central Division. In the past they had also competed in the West Division of the league. They are the other baseball team representing Chicago besides the Chicago Cubs in the MLB.

The Chicago White Sox was formed in 1894 as a minor league team called the Sioux City Cornhuskers that used to play in the Western League, also a minor league. The team renamed itself as the Chicago White Sox in 1904. Since then, they have become the World Series Champions three times in 1906, 1917 and 2005. Besides this, the team has also won many other accolades in the MLB and continued to gain popularity with the spectators. However, they also had to deal with controversies like the “Black Sox Scandal” which significantly damaged their reputation. The Chicago White Sox team had its beginnings as a minor league team called the Sioux City Cornhuskers in 1894. They renamed themselves as the Chicago White Sox and became a member of the American League in 1904. The team very soon became the World Series Champions in 1906. Unfortunately, their performance declined during the next decade. The team became the World Series Champions for the second time in 1917.

Following this, the team again entered the World Series in the 1919 season but lost to the Cincinnati Reds. Then they were faced with the infamous “Black Sox Scandal” controversy, where it was revealed that eight of the team’s members namely Arnold “Chick” Gandil, Eddie Cicotte, Oscar “Happy” Felsch, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, Fred McMullin, Charles “Swede” Risberg, George “Buck” Weaver and Claude “Lefty” Williams had gambled and fixed money to ensure that the Cincinnati Reds win the game during the 1919 World Series. They had gambled and fixed money with an organization run by none other than Arnold Rothstein. Resultantly, the National Baseball Commission was abolished and these players were banned. After this, it took a long time for the Chicago White Sox to come out of this tarnished reputation.

During the 1950’s the team won its first pennant in 1959. This was followed by frustrating seasons of the Chicago White Sox as the team struggled to remain in the race for the postseason again. During the late 1970s to the mid 1980s, the team began to prosper again. This was mostly because of the return of Bill Veeck, the former owner of the team. The team gained one of the best successes in 1983 when Julio Cruz was brought into the team in exchange for Tony Bernazard to the Seattle Mariners. They continued to improve throughout the 1990s. During the 2000s, the team was talented but under-achieved.

They soon became the World Series Champions for the third time in 2005. Since that time, till the 20129 season, the team has had a topsy-turvy time and often has struggled to enter into the playoffs. The 2020 season saw them bounce back and enter the playoffs while they became AL Central Division Champions in the 2021 season.

The Chicago White Sox are currently owned by Jerry Michael Reinsdorf. He also owns the Chicago Bulls of the NBA. A businessman from America, he was born in New York City, New York, United States on February 25, 1936. He started his business career in the real estate sector.

Once he gained the ownership of the Chicago White Sox in 1981, the team won the World Series in 2005 and divisional championships many times. However, he had complained about Comiskey Park and had threatened to relocate the team. However, the mayor of Chicago and the Governor of Illinois convinced him to let the team remain in Chicago in return for several incentives. Since then, Jerry Reinsdorf has been known to be one of the most influential and powerful team owners in MLB. He continues to perform the day to day operations of the owner and the chairman of the team.

Apart from owning sports teams, Jerry Reinsdorf is also involved in philanthropic and charitable activities especially in the Near West Side Community area. He lives with his wife, four children and grandchildren.

The Chicago White Sox have designed their own home and road jerseys for playing in their games. Their present home jersey is white colored shirt with buttons and pants. There are black pinstripes running down the shirts and the pants. There is black Nike logo on the upper left side of the shirt. The team’s logo is an interconnected “SOX” in black and white on the upper right side of the shirt. Below this, the jersey numbers appear in the below left side of the shirt in black and white color. The player name and the jersey number below it are also found in black and white behind the shirt. The sleeves of the jersey have black and white pipes around the cuffs. The logo of the team, the interconnected “SOX” in black and white appear on one of the sleeves of the shirt. The player name and the jersey number below it can also be found on the back of the shirt in black and white. The pants of the jersey are gray with black pipes running down on both sides. The caps and helmets are the same as the home jersey, black colored with the interconnected “SOX” in black and white in front. ‘

The Guaranteed Rate Field, previously known as the Comiskey Park or the U.S. Cellular Park is the home stadium for the Chicago White Sox.
