Rajshahi Kings is a Bangladesh Premier League franchise owned by the Mango Entertainment Limited. The likes of Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Mustafizur Rahman and Sabbir Rahman have played for the Kings over the seasons of BPL.
Background
The Rajshahi based franchise was acquired by the Mango Entertainment Limited after the previous franchise, Duronto Rajshahi was suspended.
Local players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehdi Hasan and overseas players like Darren Sammy, Mohammed Sami, Moeen Ali, Samit Patel Lendl Simmons and Luke Wright have played for the Rajshahi Kings over the years.
Prominent Achievements
Rajshahi started the first Bangladesh Premier League campaign very strongly by winning 7 of their 10 matches and finished at the top of the BPL Standings. Eventually, their strong run of performances came to an end as they lost to Barisal Burners in the semi-final.
The kings qualified for the final of the 2017/18 campaign after beating Chittagong Vikings in the eliminator and Khulna Titans in the 2nd qualifier game. Unfortunately, they lost to Dhaka Dynamites in the final.
BPL Trajectory
Mushfiqur Rahim led Duronto Rajshahi into a thrilling first season in 2011-12 as they went on to win 7 out of their 10 matches and they finished top of the BPL Points Table, before getting knocked out in the semi-final by Barisal Burners.
In the 2012-13 season, Tamim Iqbal was given the role of leading the side. However, he and the likes of Moeen Ali and Sean Ervine failed to move beyond the playoffs stage.
After the second season of the league, all the franchises were suspended by the league. Before the start of 2016/17 season, the Rajshahi Kings was reformed with new ownership and management.
In the 2016/17 season, the Kings came as close to as winning as they were beaten by the Dhaka Dynamites in the final.
For the 2017/18 season, they replaced their previous icon Sabbir Rahman with another famous name, Mushfiqur Rahim. They formed a good team with the likes of Luke Wright, Lendl Simmons and Mustafizur Rahman but shockingly they finished sixth in that season.
The Kings go into the 2018/19 season with few new faces in the team like Soumya Sarkar, Ryan ten Doeschate and Isuru Udana.
