Mumbai Indians Womens Squad - Players to Watch out
The Mumbai Indians Womens team had a great outing at the WPL auction where they picked up players from all spheres and they were delighted with their purchases that they had thought of doing. With a balanced squad of experienced and talented youngsters in the mix, the franchise will be a tough opponent to every other side in the competition.
Here are the cricketers to watch out for in the upcoming 2023 WPL for the MI-W:
#1. Harmanpreet Kaur
The captain will be the spearhead of the Mumbai line-up. Having tons of experience, she has represented India in over 150 T20Is with stellar performances as a batter and in her leadership. Scoring over 3000 runs in the international arena, her staggering numbers are proof of the threat she poses in front of the rival. Mumbai’s run in the WPL will be highly dependent on Harmanpreet to deliver the goods and bring the trophy in the blue corner.
#2. Nat Sciver-Brunt
Natalie holds the reputation of being that dangerous power-hitter, best known for demolishing the bowling of the opponent and turning the tides of the game. Well, that’s what every team eyes on having in their playing XI when it comes to T20Is. Sciver has produced consistent knocks in international cricket for England where her quality of scoring at a high strike-rate has won several games for her side. Also a medium pacer, she has the ability to pick up wickets and put a break at the run flow. This makes her a brilliant all-rounder to have and she’ll surely be a great tool at Mumbai’s disposal to rattle the team in front.
#3. Hayley Matthews
Born to lead, Hayley Matthews is the West Indies skipper and she is just 24 years old! Having made her debut in 2014, she is an experienced campaigner who grew in stature, accounting to stellar performances against the toughest of competitors. Talking of the shortest format of the game, Matthews has played in the WBBL, Women’s T20 Challenge, WCPL and many more leagues apart from international cricket. Her batting speaks for itself as she already has over 2000 runs in her bucket while playing for the Windies. She took her team to a maiden ICC T20 World Cup title in 2016 after her knock of 66 in just 45 deliveries ensured West Indies’ victory in the final. Her bowling is an underrated skill of hers but 78 wickets in T20Is are a clear mark of her expertise with the ball.
#4. Pooja Vastrakar
This young bundle of energy has been showcasing herself as a prime death bowler who can bowl just the right lengths needed to stop the batter in their tracks. Having played close to 50 T20Is for India, Pooja is quickly progressing as a fast bowler and she’ll be having a big responsibility to restrict the opposition in the business end of the match. Having played for the Brisbane Heat in the WBBL and the Supernovas in the Women’s T20 Challenge, the speedster has some experience in franchise cricket which will come into use when she dawns the Mumbai jersey.
