The PGA’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans is a professional golf competition presently hosted by TPC Louisiana in Avondale. In 2023, Nick Hardy and Davis Riley won against Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor by a margin of two strokes for a score of 258, under 30. The duo split $2.48 million for $1.24 million each.

The 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans has a purse of $8.9 million and a winner's share of $1.26 million per person. It will run from April 22–28, with the first round starting on April 25. In 1965, the first purse reached five figures; in 1988, it reached six figures; and in 2006, it surpassed one million dollars.

The Zurich Classic moved to a team format in 2017 and now features 80 partners. Each team starts with one player selected by the Tour priority rankings, and that player's partner must be a member of the PGA Tour or qualify for entry through sponsor exemption.

The first and third rounds of stroke play followed a better ball (fourball) format, while the second and fourth rounds used an alternate shot (foursome) format. After ties, 33 teams make up the cut line.

There are no Masters invitations or world ranking points awarded for the event, but the winners do receive 400 FedEx Cup points and two-year exemptions. In 2018, the format changed to alternate shots for the second and fourth rounds and fourball for the first and third rounds.

Zurich Classic of New Orleans 2024 History

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans was first played 86 years ago, in 1938, and has been held annually since 1958. It usually takes place in the early to mid-spring. The main sponsor is Zurich Insurance Group, and the event is planned by the Fore!Kids Foundation. Reputable golfers like Byron Nelson, Billy Casper, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, and Seve Ballesteros have all made their marks here over the years.

New Orleans's golf tournament scene started to grow in the 1930s at the City Park Golf Course. The Greater New Orleans Invitational, as it was once known, relocated to Lakewood Country Club in 1963. The National Bank of Commerce became the Classic's initial corporate sponsor in 1975 (FNBC).

In its ten years of sponsorship, USF&G Insurance, the Classic's second corporate sponsor, helped the competition reach unprecedented heights. Owing to TV coverage, the Classic became a significant PGA Tour event and effectively presented its large golfing party to the rest of the country throughout those ten years.

New Orleans was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005; nevertheless, the Zurich Classic, the first significant nationally televised professional athletic event to return to New Orleans, was successfully hosted by the Fore!Kids Foundation in 2006.
