"Let me tell you about my miracle baby": Gilbert Arenas' ex Laura Govan details heartwarming birth story of daughter Hamiley Arenas on IG

On Monday, Gilbert Arenas’ ex, Laura Govan, celebrated her daughter Hamiley Arenas’ birthday on Instagram. She posted pictures and a video of Hamiley and captioned the post with a heartwarming story of her birth.

“So let me tell you about my miracle baby," Govan wrote. "She was born breech … but not until my 8 months in & my amniotic sac erupted in my belly, and she had 23 mins to get out of my belly. My rib was broken getting her out and hearing her first breath.
I would do it again and again for you. Everything about you is everything. I love you deep Mija. Screaming happy birthday.”

Gilbert Arenas’ growing sporting legacy

Laura Govan met Gilbert Arenas when he played for the Golden State Warriors from 2001 to 2003. They started dating in 2002 before breaking up in 2014. They have four children together. Their son, Alijah, is a five-star shooting guard prospect, originally in the Class of 2026. However, he announced his reclassification to 2025 last week. Their daughter, Izela, ranked No. 88 in the Class of 2024 before enrolling at Louisville.

Hamiley Arenas has also begun to follow in the footsteps of her parents and siblings. She is a freshman at Notre Dame Sherman Oaks in Los Angeles, California, and plays basketball on coach Jena Laolagi’s team. She made her high school debut in November, recording 27 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in an unforgettable performance.

Hamiley also has a younger brother, Aloni Arenas, who is in 7th grade but is equally heir to an enviable basketball legacy.

The Arenas are a sports-inclined family with connections extending beyond basketball. Former Buffalo Bills cornerback Javier Arenas and former CFL player Armando Murillo are cousins to Gilbert Arenas. Laura Govan was also a standout hoops star at New Mexico State University.

Despite his reclassification, Alijah Arenas has admitted he does not have a shortlist of schools to consider. In an interview with SI Sports, he said:

“I don't have a dream school ... I haven't discovered that (list of schools) yet, but really looking into it ... I'll narrow things down the further we get into 2025.”

Notwithstanding, he is confident about his readiness for the momentum his recruitment is about to gather.

“I'm excited," he said. "I'm ready for it. I know what I'm expecting.”

Alijah Arenas holds offers from 17 programs per 247Sports, with Alabama, Kansas, UCLA and Xavier among his options.
