Florida State is looking to turn around its winless 0-3 start to the season as they prepare to face California on Sept. 21. Moreover, Mike Norvell and his coaching staff remain focused on recruitment.

Four-star safety Jireh Edwards became the latest prospect to receive an offer for the Seminoles 2026 class. The six-foot-one, 195-pound safety plays high school football for St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland.

The offer from Florida State has brought his total scholarship to 25 offers from schools around the country. He shared the excitement on X, tagging Norvell and defensive back coach Pat Surtaini:

"Extremely Blessed to Received an Offer From Florida State University🍢 #gonole @FloridaState @CoachMessay @CoachJdubSFA @CoachCammm @psurtain23 @Coach_Norvell."

Edwards is ranked as the No. 47 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 5 safety in the 2026 class and the No. 3 recruit in Maryland, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

If he commits to FSU, he will be the third safety in the room, joining four-star Darryl Bell from Barbara Goleman Senior High School in Florida and Tedarius Hughes from South Dade High School in Florida.

The Seminoles have six committed players in the 2026 class, which ranks No. 5 in the nation, a big leap from its previous ranking of No. 17.

Ohio State remains the frontrunner for Jireh Edwards' commitment

Jireh Edwards released his top 10 list of potential schools in April, which includes Georgia, Alabama, USC, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan State, Tennessee, Auburn and Maryland. Among them, Ohio State is leading the race for his commitment with a 32.3% chance, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

A big part of Ohio State’s edge in recruiting Edwards comes from the personal relationships he has developed with the coaching staff, especially Matt Guerrieri, the Buckeyes’ safety coach.

“I make sure I call coach Matt Guerrieri almost every day,” Edwards told Eleven Warriors. “We call, and it’s always a good conversation. I’m checking up on him; he’s checking up on me.”

When asked what makes Ohio State so appealing, Edwards pointed to the opportunities the school provides:

“The brand. What I can get out of the school, the things I can learn at the school and stuff like that.”

With only one commit, wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., in the 2026 class so far, Ohio State is looking to secure more top talent, and Jireh Edwards is clearly a priority.
