4-star WR Shamarius Peterkin commits to Virginia Tech over NC State and North Carolina
Shamarius Peterkin, the four-star wide receiver from Winston Salem, North Carolina, announced his commitment to the Virginia Tech Hokies on Friday. The 6-foot-2 receiver chose the Hokies over other top schools such as NC State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida State, and Tennessee.
Peterkin took an official visit to Virginia Tech on May 31. The four-star receiver became the Hokies' third wide receiver commit after four-star prospect Micah Matthews and three-star recruit Matthew Outten in the class of 2025. The Hokies' class of 2025 is ranked No. 34 in the country. They have landed 16 commits so far.
Peterkin caught 42 passes for 824 yards and 12 touchdowns in his junior year. Throughout his first three seasons at Mount Tabor, he has accumulated over 2,300 yards, both on the ground and through the air.
The four-star recruit from Mount Tabor High School is currently ranked No. 279 in the country and is the 45th-best wide receiver, as per On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the ninth-best overall recruit from the state of North Carolina.

Shamarius Peterkin spoke about Virginia Tech and the reasons behind his commitment.
"Really it's a big family there," the four-star prospect said, as per 247Sports. "The players are real cool too. Can always get in contact with them. They have a couple of wide receivers on the team that are built like me and they get the receivers the ball."
Peterkin made an official visit to the Virginia Tech Hokies and was consistent in their recruitment of the receiver. The Hokies' Director of High School Relations, Gunter Brewer, was a major player in recruiting the talented wide receiver.
The North Carolina native is rated 91 by 247Sports. He is ranked No. 208 in the country and is the 23rd-best wide receiver in the nation, as per 247Sports. He is also ranked No. 7 in his home state of North Carolina.
Landing Peterkin will boost the Hokies' ranking and strengthen their overall roster for the upcoming seasons.
