5-star prospect Jerzy Robinson shares 2-word reaction to being named in list featuring A'Ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart and Joyce Edwards
Jerzy Robinson has shared news of her nomination for the 2024 USA Basketball 5-on-5 Female Athlete of the Year Award. The five-star point guard and No. 1 prospect of the 2026 class shared a reel posted by the USA Basketball on her Instagram story on Saturday. The reel contained the announcement of her nomination along with four other nominees. She captioned her story with the words, "all him," and gratitude emojis.
The other nominees for the award include Joyce Edwards of the USA U18 National Team. The others are Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi and A’ja Wilson of the USA Olympic Team. The criteria for the category is “outstanding performance at any 5-on-5 national team event, junior or senior.”
The winner of the award will be decided through a voting process that is designed to include fans for the first time. Other voters will be players, coaches, administrators and journalists. The voting, which began on Dec. 21 will go on until Jan. 5, 2025, with fans allowed to vote once per day.
Robinson was in the USA U17 team that represented the country at the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Mexico. The team won a gold medal at the tournament, with Robinson playing a pivotal role, averaging 20.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
She was also named the tournament MVP after scoring a game-high 25 points and seven rebounds in the championship game against Canada.
Jerzy Robinson’s high school career in a nutshell
Jerzy Robinson started her high school basketball career at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Arizona. She averaged 22.0 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a freshman before announcing her transfer to Sierra Canyon for her sophomore year. She succeeded JuJu Watkins as Sierra Canyon's starting point guard, going on to 22.5 points and 10.8 rebounds in her sophomore season.
She continues to be pivotal for the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers this season. She scored 23 points and 12 rebounds on Thursday as the Trailblazers beat Vanden 55-33 at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas.
Robinson is from an athletic background. Her dad, Darnell Robinson, played as a linebacker for the Oregon Ducks. Winning the 5-on-5 Female Athlete of the Year will add another feather to Robinson’s well-decorated cap. She was the MaxPreps Arizona High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year as a freshman.
