5-star QB Julian Lewis’ high school teammate set to visit Deion Sanders’ Colorado following Alabama year
Following a high school recruiting cycle that saw him land five-star quarterback Julian Lewis, Deion Sanders’ recruitment for Colorado continues via the transfer portal. Alabama wide receiver Caleb Odom is one of the transfer candidates linked to Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes.
Odom, a true freshman for the Crimson Tide, is set to visit Colorado this weekend, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. The 6-foot-5 receiver did not miss any of Alabama’s 12 regular season games this fall. He had seven receptions for 65 yards in 12 games, with his only start coming on Nov. 16 when Alabama beat Mercer 52-7.
His quality and growth have been attested by Alabama wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard. He said:
“I am so proud of that young man. I just want it to be very clear. His growth as a player has been exponential throughout this season, that’s why he’s played as much as he has. When you’re a bigger guy like he is, you’re really working to get in and out of your breaks more efficiently and be able to move in a way that’s more of a receiver.”
Deion Sanders' leverage in Julian Lewis’ connection to Caleb Odom
One factor that the Buffs can leverage to their advantage is Caleb Odom’s connection with Colorado star signee Julian Lewis. Odom attended the same high school as Lewis, Carrollton High School, where they were teammates. The wide receiver was rated four-star out of high school. The On3 Industry Ranking put him at No. 54 overall and the No. 2 tight end in the 2024 recruiting class.
With the two having a chemistry that goes way back, a partnership can be re-established at Boulder that could thrive in Deion Sanders’ air-raid offense. The Buffs have the fourth-highest average passing yards per game in the country this season (327.2). Travis Hunter’s imminent exit to the NFL will leave a vacuum in the Buffs’ receiving corps which Odom can aspire to fill.
Colorado's style of filling its roster with talents has translated to on-field success with the team's incredible campaign this season. With just 13 commits out of high school, the transfer portal continues to be Deion Sanders’ major recruiting channel for the Buffs.
