Ace Flagg's gf Lizzy Gruber shares 2-word reaction to SJU Hawks' win over Howard
Duke star Cooper Flagg's twin brother Ace Flagg is ranked as the No. 15 player in North Carolina in the 2025 Class. The Greensboro Day School committed to the Maine Black Bears on Oct. 10 after rejecting offers from Boston College, Saint Joseph's and George Washington.
Ace Flagg's girlfriend Lizzy Gruber plays at the center position for the SJU Hawks and took to Instagram to share her team's 69-53 win over Howard on Dec. 20 in the opening match of the opening the 29th annual Hawk Classic at Hagan Arena. The original post was from Saint Joseph's WBB Instagram account:
"TRIP DUB 🤑," Gruber captioned her story.
Gruber reacted to Laura Ziegler's triple-double for the second time this year and the fifth time in program history. She scored 10 points on 33.3% shooting, grabbed 11 boards, dished out 10 assists and stole the ball once in 35 minutes. She helped the Hawks to an 8-2 record and will now face Charleston in the championship on Saturday.
After the match against Howard, Ziegler became the only Hawk to record two triple-doubles in her career in 24 days. She is now 24 points shy of becoming the 31st Hawk to record 1,000 career points and needs just three rebounds to enter the top 10 in program history.
Four players scored in double digits for the Hawks with Talya Brugler scoring 23 points in 36 minutes and Mackenzie Smith putting up 19 points in 24 minutes. Rhian Stokes came off the bench to score 15 points in 26 minutes.
For the Hawks, Gruber averaged 0.4 ppg, 0.6 rpg and 0.1 apg in 14 matches on 50% shooting. While playing for Gardiner Area High School, she earned the 2023 Miss Maine Basketball title, the KVAC Player of the Year and the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year.
Flagg will enter his first college basketball season with Maine next year. The three-star recruit ranks 263rd nationally and 51st in the small forward position. In the Peach Jam tournament, he averaged 14.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg and 2.4 apg while shooting 58.3% from the field and 44.4% from beyond the arc.
