Alijah Arenas' mom Laura Govan shares video detailing a concerning report amid the L.A. fires

Laura Govan, Alijah Arenas’ mother, has been talking about the utter devastation in the widespread LA fires. On January 11, she posted a series of Instagram stories sharing information about insurance policies, incompetent state action and public opinion circulating as the fires have wreaked havoc with little containment.

Govan shared a video from ABC News Live, featuring anchor Kyra Phillips and the editor-in-chief of the San Francisco Chronicles, Emilio Garcia-Ruiz. The pair discuss the Chronicles' investigation into insurance companies canceling policy renewals before the fires. The anchor emphasized that Pacific Palisades suffered the most non-policy renewals in California.

“Well, this isn’t anything new, right, or limited to California, all around the country in areas that are prone to natural disasters," Garcia-Ruiz explained. "People have had their policies canceled. There’s been a lot of good reporting out of Florida, for instance. And so insurance companies have used all kinds of different methods to justify the cancellations."

Govan shared the clip on her IG stories.

"The most famous one is that they fly a drone over your house. And look at your roof and decide for whatever reason your roof is unsafe and then they cancel you and then becomes the problem of getting yourself uncancelled,” Garcia-Ruiz added.

He further discussed how impossible it becomes to get the policy uncancelled. It is hard to even look for new policies because fewer and fewer new policies are being written for areas like California. On asking about what insurance can cover, Garcia-Ruiz explained that people have resorted to fair plan insurance run by private insurers.

In reaction to the video, Govan showed her disappointment and frustration surrounding the condition with a “🤦” emoji.

In the next story, Laura Govan shared a video of Janisse Quiñones, the CEO and chief engineer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, where she fails to explain the dry hydrants during the fires. Govan commented:

“She forgot to tell the public that the feeds reservoir is empty that feeds the fire hydrants 🤦.”

She shared two more videos reiterating what she feels to be frustratingly poor mitigation by the state amid the destructive conditions.

Laura Govan's frustration over LA Wildfires

Laura Govan has been vocal on Instagram about the Los Angeles wildfires throughout the week. On Wednesday, she posted:

“The fire went from 20 to 200 acres in no time.”

Laura Govan also criticized the state amid the devastating fires:

“We pay all these taxes, and there’s no water in the fire hydrants?”

She also supported talent manager Travis Wilson’s initiative to provide temporary AirBnB housing for 10 families. Govan urged her followers to reach out if they need help:

“If you’re in these areas, don’t hesitate to reach out and get help.”

The situation in LA is ongoing.
