"Boulder I’m home": Four-Star OT Carde Smith begins Colorado journey with Bowl practice snaps
The No. 23 Colorado is set to face No. 17 BYU on Saturday in the Big 12 clash. The Buffaloes are also celebrating the arrival of one of their prized recruits, as four-star offensive tackle Carde Smith touched down in Boulder on Friday, joining the team for bowl game practices.
Smith shared his excitement on X on Saturday by posting a picture alongside Colorado’s director of player personnel Corey Phillips.
"Boulder I’m home @theyoungcoach @ochocinco bossman Smitty has arrived 🦬," Smith tweeted tagging Phillips and NFL legend Chad Johnson.
Phillips responded with his own retweet, joking about the late-night airport pickup:
"1am pickup, I must really fool with you. 🤦🏾♂️😆#BossmanSmittyIsHome #OperationReload #PlayoffPeggyIn25 #LawdImSleepy🥱."
Carde Smith is one of 14 committed players and eight transfers in Colorado's 2025 class, ranking No. 226 in the nation, per On3. All committed players in the cycle have signed with the school.
Smith’s arrival represents the ongoing momentum of Coach Deion Sanders’ transformative efforts in Boulder.
Carde Smith gave his pledge to Colorado on Nov. 28 after decommitting from the USC Trojans on Nov. 20, where he had been committed since Aug. 5. His recruitment journey also included a brief commitment to Auburn earlier this year, which he backed away from in June.
Carde Smith earns 1st Team All-State honors
Carde Smith led Williamson High School (Alabama) to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs this year. His dominance on the field earned him 1st Team All-State honors, alongside standout players Ellis McGaskin (2027), Taijh Overton (2025) and Yusuf Clark (2025).
The 6-foot-6, 295-pound offensive tackle's performance at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star practices proved his elite potential. With the best tackle frame in attendance and an exceptional ability to protect the quarterback, he stood out among the region’s top talent.
Carde Smith is the No. 18 offensive tackle in the 2025 class, the No. 17 recruit in Alabama, and the No. 189 prospect in the nation, according to Rivals. He was also No. 15 on AL.com’s revamped A-List of top recruits, which was released last month.
