"Crazy how he still not a 5 star smh": Fans react to three-star WR Quentin Gibson's latest high school accolade
Three-star Colorado signee Quentin Gibson capped off a legendary high school career by delivering one of the greatest individual seasons in Texas high school football history. The wide receiver led North Crowley High School to a 16-0 record, culminating in a 50-21 victory over Westlake in the Class 6A Division 1 state championship game on Friday.
Gibson recorded seven receptions for 181 yards and three touchdowns in the game against Westlake. His performance on Friday served as the perfect finale to a senior campaign that included 93 catches for 2,009 yards and 36 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. He also threw a 75-yard touchdown pass while also rushing for 40 yards and adding two scores.
Such dominant numbers earned Gibson the 2024 MaxPreps Texas High School Football Player of the Year award. It is a rare feat for a wide receiver in a state dominated by star quarterbacks.
Gibson is rated as a three-star prospect by all recruiting channels, except for ESPN. Fans slammed these outlets for not acknowledging the wide receiver's talent.
"Well deserved QG!!!! Crazy how he still not a 5 star smh," a fan wrote.
"Yet he’s a 3 star lmao," one wrote.
"A 3 star is the best player in one of the best football states in the country ? 😂😂😂 you recruiting sites need to be abolished," one wrote.
"A 3 star winning should mean yall grading system is flawed ! Give that kid his stars !!" one wrote.
The skepticism surrounding his ranking contrasts with Gibson’s company on the MaxPreps Texas Player of the Year list, which includes former elite quarterbacks Cade Klubnik, Jackson Arnold and D.J. Lagway.
"Well deserved," one wrote.
"There it is 🔥," one wrote.
North Crowley faced one of the toughest schedules in the country but still defeated seven programs with a combined 24 state championships. Besides Gibson, their roster is loaded with Division I talent, including quarterback Chris Jemerson Jr. and offensive lineman Henry Fenuku.
