“Everything thing is NFL style”: Five-star ATH Michael Terry speaks highly of Matt Rhule’s Nebraska following official visit
San Antonio's Alamo Heights five-star athlete Michael Terry III returned to Nebraska for a two-day visit, his first to Lincoln since his April official visit during the Huskers spring game. The 6-foot-2, 211-pound Terry, who holds the No. 28 athlete ranking in the nation according to On3, was impressed by head coach Matt Rhule’s NFL-style program.
Receivers coach Garret McGuire has been instrumental in Terry's recruitment, with Rhule playing an active role.
“Coach Rhule is an over-achiever in the best way possible,” Terry told On3. “The changes he’s implementing are transforming the program, from workouts to meal planning."
"He [Rhule] is turning that whole program into something different all the way from workouts to eating schedule and meal planning. Everything thing is NFL style. So much change in the short period of time. The facilities are past awesome.”
Michael Terry is currently considering offers from powerhouse programs like Texas and Oregon, alongside Nebraska. This week, he visited all three schools, with Nebraska leaving an impression. Terry appreciated the intensity and enjoyment of Nebraska’s practice sessions,
“Practice was pretty cool. They made it hard but fun competing in drills.”
The atmosphere among Nebraska’s players also stood out to Terry.
“They’re super happy!,” he observed. “It’s a different feel around there.”
Michael Terry now plans to discuss his experiences with his parents and coach before making a decision, likely before his senior season begins.
“They’re all great,” Terry said. “Getting back talking things over with my parents and coach. But most importantly getting ready to focus on practice.”
Michael Terry reflects on Texas Bash visit and his fit with the Longhorns
Michael Terry III participated in the Texas Bash event in Austin on Thursday, July 26. The event featured many of Texas' top priority targets, and Terry shared his experiences and insights on the Longhorns program.
“Texas is never a dull moment,” Terry shared with On3's Steve Wiltfong. “Discussing things with Coach (Tashard Choice), watching practice, seeing my former high school teammates, and learning how they evaluate new players were all valuable takeaways. It helped me understand how I’ll work with different position coaches for development.”
While it's still uncertain where Terry will primarily play at the next level, Texas plans to utilize his versatility. Terry views Texas as an excellent fit, similar to Oregon and Nebraska.
“I always knew Texas was a great fit for me, just like Oregon and Nebraska,” Terry said. “These final visits are to ensure my evaluation and heart are aligned with my decision.”
Ranked as the No. 21 player nationally and also the No. 1 athlete and No. 7 player in Texas by On3, Michael Terry had a stellar junior season. He amassed 1,588 offensive yards and 32 touchdowns, including 564 receiving yards and 995 rushing yards.
