Five-star Michigan QB signee Bryce Underwood earns Mr. Football award in consecutive seasons

Five-star Michigan quarterback signee Bryce Underwood continues to prove why he’s the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class. The Belleville High School (Michigan) star added another accolade to his resume on Sunday, winning Michigan’s Mr. Football award for the second consecutive year. This comes just a week after he was named Gatorade Player of the Year in Michigan.

Underwood capped off his senior season by completing 125 of 174 passes for 2,321 yards and 30 touchdowns for just five interceptions while also rushing 38 times for 582 yards and 10 touchdowns in 11 games.

Fox college football analyst RJ Young included Underwood among his top Heisman Trophy candidates for 2025. The list also featured Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, Texas quarterback Arch Manning and Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams. The fact that Underwood made it to the list despite not being a college player speaks a lot about his caliber.

Underwood is only the second consensus No. 1 overall player to commit to Michigan, following defensive standout Rashan Gary in 2016. However, his path to Ann Arbor was far from straightforward. Despite growing up a Wolverines fan, Underwood initially leaned toward LSU during his recruitment, feeling undervalued by Michigan’s previous coaching staff.

However, the new coaching staff led by Sherrone Moore did everything possible to recruit Underwood and ultimately made one of the greatest moves in college football recruiting by flipping him from the Tigers.

Future Michigan teammate raves about Bryce Underwood

Rivals and Yahoo Sports recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman reached out to Michigan running back signee Jasper Parker to ask about his thoughts on future teammate Bryce Underwood.

"That guy, Bryce, is the real deal," Parker said. "And I know he's coming to take hands off his first year. And I'm excited to have him. I mean, he's going to be tremendous. I think this is going to be a top two draft pick. And I don't think he's going to be two in the future. So it's just great being able to go play alongside him. Just all the things he's accomplished."

Parker also didn’t forget to congratulate Underwood for his back-to-back Gatorade Player of the Year title this season, which is the top accolade in high school sports.

"I see you balling, and I can't wait to see you up there," Parker added.

Bryce Underwood is Michigan's highest-rated quarterback signee in the modern recruiting era. He would start early by participating in the Wolverines' bowl prep practices later this month.
