"He's the funniest person in high school": When AJ Dybantsa named the most hilarious hooper among Ace Bailey, Cooper Flagg, Meleek Thomas and him
No. 1 prospect and BYU Cougars commit AJ Dybantsa was accompanied by other top prospects, including Cooper Flagg, Ace Bailey, and Meleek Thomas, in a video uploaded by SLAM in the "SLAM Summer Classic Vol. 5" on Sep. 12, 2023. The quartet was asked quick-fire questions during the "Point 'Em Out" game.
While the entire interview was full of jokes, the group was asked which one of them was most likely to be a stand-up comedian, and Dybantsa, Flagg, and Thomas quickly pointed toward Ace Bailey.
"He's the funniest person in high school," said Dybantsa while pointing at Bailey. (3:42 - 3:44)
"Ace," said Flagg.
The video also showed a goofy video of Bailey before the bunch talked about the funniest thing they said to them:
"I came late bro, he's in my room. Bro he is jumping, he was 16, he was jumping on the bed and he was just making dumb noises. I don't know what you were doing. We were outside, he was playing and running, I can't say it," said Dybantsa before he was interrupted by Thomas. (4:12 - 4:25)
"He just speaks his mind," said Thomas.
"Anything that comes up in his head, he's going to say it, no filter," Dybantsa responded.
The interview ended with Dybantsa being seen rapping, and the other three players cheered him on before Bailey started rapping with the Brockton, Massachusetts native.
AJ Dybantsa vs Cooper Flagg
The No.1 prospects in the 2024 and 2025 classes faced each other in the Montverde Academy Invitations Tournament's final in January. While Flagg represented Montverde Academy, Dybantsa played for Prolific Prep.
The Duke guard scored 19 points to help his team win, 78-72, over Prolific Prep. Dybantsa had 18.
The duo also faced each other before they were ranked No. 1 prospects in the 2022 Nike EYBL Peach Jam. Flagg's Maine United got the upper hand in this game as well, defeating Dybantsa's New England.
SLAM uploaded highlights of this game on their Instagram page on Dec. 13, which saw hoops trainer Brandon Ball comment about helping Dybantsa against Flagg:
"Remember like it was yesterday‼️ Coop blocked AJs first 3 shots…AJ came straight to me in the first timeout “wtf do I do”😂 “You keep going straight at him! Get to his chest! Be the aggressor! Initiate the contact to get space” AJ proceeded to relaxed and got busy‼️ Coop got the dub, all over the place defensively! Offense wasn’t quite polished yet…the red head lefty killed ❌ big 3 in the corner… Great Game‼️" Ball commented.
Dybantsa will be accompanied by other prospects from the 2025 class, including Xavion Staton and Chamberlain Burgess.
