"I got several threats": Alabama Crimson Tide QB commit Keelon Russell makes astonishing remark about playing high school football in Texas
Keelon Russell, a five-star Alabama commit, plays for Texas powerhouse Duncanville High School. The 6-foot-3 quarterback initially pledged his allegiance to the SMU Mustangs but flipped to Kalen DeBoer's Crimson Tide on June 4.
Russell has received the full Texas high school football experience during his time with Duncanville. On the "Official Momentum Show" on Monday, he spoke about hostile crowds.
"Coming as a sophomore, that was hard. I had a lot of haters," Russell said. "Like, I didn't know how to do it. I ain't know how to overcome, like, ... it was people hitting me up, talking about, 'You the worst quarterback that Duncanville's ever gonna have,' and I'm just, like, 'Dang, I ain't know how to solve it."
The Texas crowd can be rough on its players, even for a top high school athlete and Russell has already experienced the worst of it. However, the five-star QB has endeared himself to fans for his stellar performances for the Panthers.
Russell is ranked No.12 in the country and is the third-best quarterback in the Class of 2025, according to On3. He is the fifth-best overall prospect in Texas.
Keelon Russell leads Duncanville to dominant win over Mesquite

Russell tallied 140 yards on 19 pass attempts and scored a couple of touchdowns. He finished with a QB rating of 116.4 while completing 57.9% of his passes.
The Panthers are ranked No. 3 in the country by MaxPreps, only behind Mater Dei and Milton. They will play their next game at the Cedar Hill Longhorns (3-6) on Thursday.
Keelon Russell has racked up 2,626 yards on a 71.7% completion rate. He has thrown 36 touchdowns and zero interceptions and has a quarterback rating of 149.8. He will look to contribute as much as he can in the remaining weeks before heading to Alabama next year.
