"I mean, talk about Ohio State fans": 2027 QB target Trae Taylor raves about energetic atmosphere inside Ohio Stadium
Four-star quarterback Trae Taylor from Carmel Catholic High School in Illinois is one of the most promising prospects in the 2027 class. The standout signal-caller has offers from most of the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference schools, including Ryan Day's Ohio State.
Last weekend, Taylor had the opportunity to witness Ohio State’s 21-17 victory over Nebraska. The game was attended by over 104,000 fans, providing a powerful experience for a recruit like him.
"It was amazing," Taylor told On3. "I mean, talk about Ohio State fans, I had no clue. I had a great time. It was good to get back into Ohio State."
The game itself was thrilling, as trailing 17-15 late in the fourth quarter, Ohio State regained the lead with a clutch touchdown pass to Quinshon Judkins.
Nebraska attempted a final comeback, but Huskers quarterback Dylan Raiola threw a costly interception into double coverage. Buckeyes cornerback Jordan Hancock secured a sliding interception to seal the win and end Nebraska’s hopes of a last-minute rally.
Nebraska will return to Memorial Stadium to host UCLA on Saturday, when Ohio State hosts Penn State.
Michigan leads the race for Trae Taylor's commitment
Trae Taylor is drawing attention as the most heavily recruited quarterback in Illinois since J.J. McCarthy. He spent the summer visiting schools and meeting with over a dozen coaches. This intense recruitment effort has been highlighted by his nationwide camp tour to get a comprehensive look at potential programs before narrowing down his options.
Michigan leads the race for Taylor's commitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, which gives the Wolverines a 38.8% chance of securing him. This interest stems from Michigan's consistent efforts to engage Taylor. He has visited Ann Arbor multiple times and also attended the annual BBQ at The Big House in August.
The visit helped Trae Taylor strengthen his bond with Michigan's quarterbacks coach, Kirk Campbell. Speaking to The Wolverine, he expressed his appreciation for the opportunity:
“I was able to once again work with Coach Campbell and really get to actually sit down and see what their offense looks like in some meetings."
Michigan is also casting a wide net for the 2027 quarterback cycle by extending offers to three other prospects: Brady Edmunds, Daniel Mielke and Reagan Toki. While Edmunds appears to be leaning toward Ohio State, Mielke and Toki both show significant interest in Michigan.
