"I thought that was you on the stage": Tennessee signee David Sanders Jr. mistakes USC DL Jamaal Jarrett for $150 million worth rapper

In a humorous moment, Tennessee’s five-star offensive tackle commit David Sanders Jr. mistakenly identified USC defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett as rap mogul Rick Ross during an event. The mix-up, shared through Jarrett’s Instagram carousel, included the Sander's comment:

The mistaken comparison to Rick Ross, born William Leonard Roberts II, is amusing given the rapper's fame. Ross, who boasts a $150 million net worth (per celebrity net worth), rose to prominence with his 2006 hit "Hustlin'". Known for his distinctive voice and vivid storytelling, Ross’s albums, such as Port of Miami and Teflon Don, cemented his status as a hip-hop icon.

David Sanders Jr., standing at 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds, is a top recruit from Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ranked as the No. 6 overall player in the 2025 class by 247Sports Composite, Sanders also holds the No. 1 spot as both the top offensive lineman and player from his home state.

Sanders committed to Tennessee on August 17, continuing the program’s streak of signing five-star talent. He is the sole five-star commit for Tennessee in 2025, but the Volunteers have already secured five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon for their 2026 class.

Jamaal Jarrett transfers to USC: former Georgia DL brings size and potential

Jamaal Jarrett, a 6-foot-5, 380-pound defensive lineman, announced his commitment to USC in December after a visit to the school just days earlier. The visit appears to have played a pivotal role in his decision.

Previously a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, Jarrett was ranked No. 183 overall and No. 21 among defensive linemen. Initially considered a developmental player at Georgia, he saw limited playing time over two seasons.

During his freshman year in 2023, Jarrett logged just 57 snaps. In 2024, as a redshirt freshman, he appeared in 11 games, finishing the season with three tackles.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart had commented on Jamaal Jarrett’s progression, stating,

“Jah’s been good,” Smart told On3. His weight has been up and down. I think it’s something that he knows and he’s trying to work on. He has moments — flashes— of being able to help us, and we need help at that position in terms of depth because we’ve got, you know, injuries at those positions."

Smart highlighted Jarrett’s need to improve his stamina and ability to play consecutive snaps.

"I think he’s getting better. He’s more dependable. He has a little more stamina, but there’s still an area for improvement that he’s got to be able to play more consecutive snaps. That’s what we challenge him to do each and every day.”

Jamaal Jarrett, who has two years of eligibility remaining, faced off-field controversies, including being named in an investigation regarding alleged misconduct during his recruiting period.
