"It’s also Oregon, how could you not love Oregon?": 2026 class prospect Vance Spafford impressed with Dan Lanning's team

Wide receiver Vance Spafford is quickly becoming one of the most highly-touted prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, with numerous programs offering him scholarships in the last few months. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound WR spoke with ScoopDuck about the excitement of receiving an offer from coach Dan Lanning's Oregon Ducks.

Spafford, a Mission Viejo High School standout from Tustin, California, recounted how Oregon's co-offensive coordinator, Junior Adams, extended the offer just as he was finishing a meal with friends. For the wide receiver, the offer was like a "dream come true" moment, as he was aware of Oregon's potential before its debut in the Big Ten.

“It’s also Oregon, how could you not love Oregon? I hear nothing but good things from Oregon," Spafford said. "I hear that once you get up there you love it. There’s not much not to love up there. They have a lot of depth, which could turn you away but I think if I get there and I get the chance to prove myself I can prove myself and show why I’m the best.”

Coach Adams, who joined Oregon on Jan. 3, 2022, has a reputation for developing players and pushing them to the professional level, something that has not gone unnoticed by Spafford.

“Obviously I like what Coach June does, he gets receivers in (the NFL)," Spafford said. "He talks to Cooper Kupp, who I like a lot and I like to idolize my game around, so why would I not go to the guy that talks to the guy that I want to be the most?”

Last season, Vance Spafford shattered single-season receiving records, catching 83 passes for 1,576 yards and 22 touchdowns. He hasn't set a definitive timeline for his decision, but he anticipates committing around this time next year. Should he choose Oregon, he would join four-star defensive lineman Tony Cumberland as the second commit in the Ducks' 2026 class.

Oregon emerges as frontrunner in Vance Spafford's commitment

Vance Spafford has received offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Oregon State, San Diego State, TCU, Utah, Washington, Arizona State, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Cincinnati. The prospect has already mentioned that Oregon, TCU, Nebraska, Ole Miss and Arizona State are the frontrunners to earn his pledge.

Initially, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favored San Jose State with an 8.8% chance of securing Spafford's pledge, followed closely by Arizona State at 7.7%. However, the scenario has dramatically shifted in favor of the Ducks.

Following Spafford's recent praise for Oregon, the Ducks have surged to the forefront, now boasting a 34.4% chance of landing the wide receiver. This leap significantly diminishes the Spartans' prospects, dropping their chances to a mere 2.3%. Meanwhile, Ole Miss is also in the race with a 30.1% chance of landing his commitment.

Vance Spafford is ranked as the No. 245 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 34 wide receiver in the 2026 class and the No. 23 prospect in California, according to On3. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 181 overall prospect, the No. 29 wide receiver in the class and the No. 20 prospect in California.
