"It's a f**k no for me": Cam Newton on being asked if Auburn signee Deuce Knight can rock his legendary #2 Auburn jersey
Deuce Knight, a five-star quarterback from George County High School, will begin his college career at Auburn after signing with the Tigers on National Signing Day. He chose the program over top schools such as Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Alabama.
Knight committed on October 2 this year, after flipping from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. During his visit, he participated in a photo shoot with the Tigers, sporting the No. 2 jersey. The number had previously belonged to former NFL MVP Cam Newton, who spent one season with the Tigers.
Newton was asked about Knight potentially inheriting the No. 2 jersey.
"It’s a f*** no for me," Newton said on the 4th and 1 podcast. "I like Deuce ... But in this day and age, bro, everything’s earned. You’ve got to earn the right. And what you did in high school, nobody gives a f*** in college... Like, win the locker room first. F*** numbers. F***, like, entitlement, f*** NIL. F*** all that shit. Bro, win a game."
Deuce Knight is ranked No. 27 in the country and is the fifth-best quarterback in the Class of 2025, as per On3. He is also the second-best overall prospect in the state of Mississippi.
Cam Newton launched high school 7-on-7 league back in 2022
Cam Newton has been out of professional football since 2021. He last played in the league for the Carolina Panthers and since then has been active in the high school football circuit.
He launched a 7-on-7 league, aka OT7, in March 2022 with Overtime. The league featured some of the best high school talents. This year, Deuce Knight and Bryce Underwood were among the players who participated in the league.
"I have spent the better part of the last 15 years dedicated to bettering the lives of young football players through 7 on 7 football," Newton said in a press release. "I felt that now was the time to leverage my knowledge of the space and partner with Overtime to give 7 on 7 the exposure and investment it deserves."
Cam Newton played in the NFL for 15 years and is the league's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns as a quarterback.
