Kiyan Anthony's teammate and Penn State commit Kayden Mingo reveals his "role model" while growing up

Long Island Lutheran star and four-star Penn State commit Kayden Mingo dropped by the "Breakfast Club" and talked about basketball and the people who inspired him to take up the sport. This was also when he announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions.

Co-host DJ Envy asked the 6-2 point guard about what Mingo put some time and effort into basketball. Mingo noted that his father did not really play basketball and was more of a football guy, but it was another member of the family who got him into the sport.

"When I was younger, my parents always just had us, you know, with with my older brother because he played basketball," he told the three hosts. "When he was younger and I always, you know, me and my little brother would be running around in the middle of the games and stuff playing one-on-one versus each other." (1:58-2:15)

He then explained that he looked at his brother as a role model as he fell in love with the game.

"So I would really say, you know, just looking up to him as a role model," Kayden Mingo added. "That's when I wanted to play basketball, that's what I got it from." (2:12-2:18)

Co-host Charlamagne tha God then asked Mingo when he started falling in love with the sport and taking it seriously. The four-star point guard stated that it was probably around middle school.

Kayden Mingo plays with fellow four-star guard Kiyan Anthony at Long Island Lutheran. While Mingo has already committed to Penn State, Kiyan has not yet committed to any school, though he is down to his final three, Syracuse, USC, and Auburn.

Kayden Mingo talks about why he chose Penn State

With Kayden Mingo's commitment to the Penn State Nittany Lions secured, head coach Mike Rhoades has his first signature recruiting win there. The four-star guard chose the school over Wake Forest, Georgia and Virginia Tech, and he told the Breakfast Club why.

"I felt like it was the best fit, best opportunity, best style of play, and also the best relationship with the coaches, especially Coach Rhoades, the head coach," he told Charlamagne Tha God. "I just feel like this is the best place I can thrive and place I can thrive the most." (10:14-10:26)

Mingo is ranked No. 43 by 247Sports and is now the highest-ranked player ever recruited by the school during the modern recruiting era.
