LSU makes early move on three-star 2026 class QB prospect with key recruitment visit
LSU has set its sights on quarterback Brodie McWhorter as a target for the 2026 class. On Monday, the three-star prospect from Cass High School in Georgia received a visit from the Tigers' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan.
McWhorter shared the visit on X, posting a photo with Sloan and tagging LSU head coach Brian Kelly and offensive analyst Trey Holtz.
"Grateful for @CoachJoeSloan stopping by the house this afternoon! #GeauxTigers 🐯 @CoachBrianKelly @CoachTreyHoltz."
McWhorter had previously committed to West Virginia from June to December, but he backed out after head coach Neal Brown was fired. Since then, he has received interest from multiple programs. Chandler Whitmer, the Indiana quarterbacks coach, also visited McWhorter and Mississippi State last week.
McWhorter is the No. 456 overall prospect in the country and the No. 32 quarterback in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He also ranks as Georgia's No. 52 prospect.
Can LSU secure Brodie McWhorter's commitment?
Despite his decommitment, Brodie McWhorter is still leaning towards West Virginia with a 78.5% chance of securing his commitment, according to On3. He has already connected with new head coach Rich Rodriguez.
“I can tell he (Rodriguez) is not only a great coach but an even better human that truly cares,” McWhorter told Rivals.
While LSU remains a long shot to sway McWhorter, the Tigers’ history of producing successful quarterbacks could become a factor, with Garrett Nussmeier being their most recent standout.
LSU's quarterback spot is intriguing moving into the 2025 season, since with Nussmeier returning, the Tigers chose not to add a quarterback from the 2025 class, instead signing Mississippi State transfer Michael Van Buren last month. Buren is slated to become the program's QB1 in 2026.
In the 2026 recruiting class, LSU has secured six commitments but still lacks a quarterback. The cycle ranks No. 3 in the Southeastern Conference and No. 5 in the nation, as per On3.
