Marcus Freeman's Notre Dame receives commitment of 4-star LB Thomas Davis Jr. to the Class of 2026
Four-star linebacker Thomas Davis Jr., the son of three-time Pro Bowler Thomas Davis, committed to Notre Dame's 2026 class on Tuesday.
The commitment came following his unofficial visit to the school for Saturday's 52-3 win over Florida State, which was his first time attending the Irish home game.
"I was excited to see the team beat Florida State," Davis told Inside ND Sports. "I had a great time talking with coaches and hanging out with some recruits and friends as well."
The Notre Dame commitment doesn’t come as a surprise, as he had revealed his affinity for the school following Saturday's visit, saying (via Irish Sports Daily),
“The gameday experience was special. I could definitely see myself playing in that stadium.”
Even in June, Davis revealed to 247Sports that the Irish were his favorite school. He has visited UCLA, NC State, Georgia, Ohio State, South Carolina, Clemson, Miami, Southern Cal, Oregon and Michigan during his recruitment journey.
Davis became the third pledge and the first defensive player for the Irish in the 2026 class, joining offensive standouts like quarterback Noah Grubbs and wide receiver Dylan Faison.
Davis was also the second high-profile recruit to pledge to Notre Dame after this weekend’s win, as 2025 running back Nolan James Jr. flipped his commitment from Boston College earlier in the week. Notre Dame's 2025 class has 24 committed players and ranks No. 14 in the nation.
Thomas Davis Jr. opens up about his commitment to Notre Dame
Notre Dame offered Thomas Davis Jr. on St. Patrick's Day, and he visited for spring practice on April 3 before attending the school's Grill and Chill recruiting event on July 26.
“It felt like home,” Davis told On3's Steve Wiltfong. “The three visits I’ve been on, they welcomed me, and they have a plan developing players on and off the field, and it’s a great program overall.”
Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator Al Golden and linebacker Max Bullough have recruited Davis as an early priority, and their efforts bore fruit.
Thomas Davis Jr. attends Weddington High School in North Carolina. Except for On3, all other major recruiting channels rank him as a four-star prospect. He'w the nation's No. 113 overall prospect, the No. 7 linebacker in the 2026 class and the No. 7 recruit in North Carolina.
