Matt Barnes shares details about son Isaiah Barnes’ “tough week”: “Largest appendix he has ever seen”
Matt Barnes' son, Isaiah Barnes, is a high school prospect from the class of 2027. The guard from Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, California is a highly scrutinized prospect because of his 14-year NBA veteran father. He and his twin brother, Carter Barnes, play for the same high school as sophomores.
Isaiah underwent an appendix surgery, which was a result of multiple incidents that happened within a week. According to Matt Barnes' Instagram, his son went through an accident and a severe stomach ache and was unable to walk properly.
"My guys had a tough week. Hit by a car while jogging Wednesday," the former Golden State Warriors forward wrote on his Instagram. "Had a bad stomach ache Friday ... Couldn’t sleep all Friday night ... I took him to the emergency room & he had to have emergency appendix surgery."
He further revealed that as per the doctors at UCLA Health, it was the largest appendix they had seen.
"Doctor said it was the largest appendix he had ever seen that hadn’t ruptured," Barnes wrote.
Messages of support came pouring in for the youngster as he began his recovery from the surgery. The Barnes family will hope that Isaiah recovers from his operation and starts playing basketball again.
Isaiah Barnes talks about his father's influence during the Section 7 Basketball Tournament
Isaiah Barnes participated in the Section 7 Basketball Tournament in June with his twin brother, Carter. Both the Barnes twins had strong support from their NBA veteran father, Matt Barnes.
Isaiah opened up about his father's experience and mentorship before the tournament.
"He’s preached so much to us. He’s preached mental toughness, defense, offense, consistency, body language, even playing without the ball," the youngster said, as per Cronkite News. "For this, it’s out of state. Big crowd. A lot of people trying to get in your head, but he always said, 'Tune it out, don’t let them get in your head.'"
That advice paid off as both Isaiah Barnes and Carter Barnes had a great run during the three-day tournament. They combined for 39 points against Lincoln High School and led Crespi Carmelite High School through the 16-team Mayo Clinic Bracket.
Carter averaged 7.3 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.2 rebounds as a freshman playing for his varsity team. Isaiah, on the other hand, averaged 8.5 points, 1.3 assists, and 2.6 rebounds last season as a freshman.
