Miami Hurricanes Recruiting: Former Miami RB Clinton Portis' son commits to Mario Cristobal's 2026 recruiting class
Camdin Portis, a three-star cornerback prospect and son of former NFL star Clinton Portis, announced his commitment to Mario Cristobal's Miami Hurricanes on Sunday.
The 6-foot, 165-pound defensive back chose Miami over Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee and Auburn. Portis also received offers from FBS programs such as Ole Miss, Missouri, North Carolina and NC State.
Portis is in his junior season at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a sophomore, he recorded 18 tackles, 10 pass breakups and two interceptions.
"I watched Miami growing up and always wanted to go to Miami," Portis told On3. "It is a beautiful place and a great school with a lot of tradition. Miami has had a lot of great players play there and it is on its way back up."
Portis received his Miami offer from Cristobal in April. He was at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night to watch the Hurricanes' game against the Florida State Seminoles.
Camdin’s father, Clinton Portis, is a legendary figure in Miami football history. From 1999 to 2001, Portis rushed for 2,523 yards and 20 touchdowns, playing a key role on Miami's dominant 2001 championship team. He was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
Miami Hurricanes building momentum with strong recruiting class under Mario Cristobal
Camdin Portis is now the third recruit in Miami’s 2026 class, joining three-star dual-threat quarterback Dereon Coleman and linebacker Jordan Campbell, ranked No. 138 in ESPN’s Junior 300.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes’ 2025 class has been steadily climbing, ranked No. 12 in ESPN’s latest team standings, with 11 top-300 recruits committed.
Under Mario Cristobal, the Miami program has gained traction, with players like Portis excited by its resurgence.
"The program hasn’t been where it wants to be for a while, but coach Cristobal is getting some players in and he is getting it back up there," Portis said. "It is different now than what is was before coach Cristobal got there."
The No. 5 Miami Hurricanes (8-0, 4-0 ACC) will face the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday.
