Miami signee Malachi Toney highlights major high school football achievement on IG
Malachi Toney, a four-star wide receiver from American Heritage High School, had a fantastic Junior year. The 5-foot-10 athlete was named the 2024 MaxPreps Florida High School Football Player of the Year after leading the Patriots to a 12-2 record and a Class 4A State Championship.
The receiver proudly shared the news on his Instagram story. Toney started the season on the back of a decent sophomore year. He began the campaign with a bang, grabbing 15 passes for 256 yards and four touchdowns in his first two games.
His best game of the season, however, came against the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks on Oct. 18, when he went off for 167 yards and two touchdowns on just four catches.
Against Norland in November, the four-star prospect scored four total touchdowns and went for 225 total yards, leading the Patriots to a 35-14 win. According to MaxPreps, the Miami signee grabbed 58 catches for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns while also contributing as a quarterback in key games during the season.
Toney is ranked No.393 in the country and is the 61st-best player at his position in the class of 2025, per On3. He is also the 54rd-best overall recruit in the state of Florida.
Malachi Toney re-committed to the Miami Hurricanes
The four-star wide receiver from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, announced his recommitment to the Miami Hurricanes on Oct. 28 after decommitting from the program on Oct. 3. He chose the Hurricanes over schools such as Florida State, Ohio State, Auburn, and Alabama.
Toney's visit to Miami for its game against the Florida State Seminoles was pivotal in his signing for the Hurricanes, as well as his relationship with the coaching staff, despite his initial u-turn.
"It’s been the same," Toney spoke about his relationship with the Hurricanes' staff per On3, adding, "They’re still showing me love. It’s still a family. I still have my bonds with all of the coaches and stuff like that. It’s all the same."
Toney is one of Miami's 21 signees from the class of 2025. He is the program's second-best wide receiver signee after four-star recruit Joshua Moore. Miami's class of 2025 is ranked No.16 in the country, per 247Sports. Mario Cristobal had a great recruiting cycle and will look to build on it going forward.
